Dean1, I have had navman in my last two boats and recommend their plotter. Just purchased another boat last week and the first thing i bought was the Navman 5507 plotter. They have a simple menu to use and to this date have had no problems at all. Some models of their Sounders are a different issue though . Regards Shane

Thanx willow1, i really like the sound of the navman 5507, just have heard of there callback rate been high. I guess its a matter of jagging a good 1 first time. If they do play up its a long wait to gether fixed too ive heard. Pity coz the easy to use bit really attracts me, my last plotter was a cobra and youd have to be a scientest to work it out, very hard

The Navman chartplotters are pretty easy to use. I figured most of my 6600 out without the manual, but I personally think it comes down to which cartography you prefer. The boat I bought was all fitted out with Navman gear, so no use changing it, but my personal preference is Navionics. Although I have heard good things about the Garmin units which from memory use Bluechart.

What sort of fishing are you doing? I love the garmins for ease of use, i button for each feature , zoom in and out quickly, fast redraw. But for game fishing there charts( contour lines) aren't as good as Navionics gold which seems to be the best at the moment! The new garmin g2 charts look good but i haven't seen one in the flesh yet so i cant comment!

Hi Ian....The new G2 charts are fantastic ...but they dont seem to show as many contour lines as other charts...

I think there may be an additional card available with much more info ...eg...contour lines..

off topic a tad here, but does anyone know if there is a fuel function on any other plotter except the navman?
I like the look of the garmin, have always had a good run with their handhelds, but would like inbuilt fuel monitoring

Hamish73, Check out Bias boating, one of the brands they sell has fuel function on a couple of selected models. I asked them the same question about three weeks ago when I was in there. Memory is getting bad, cant remember which brand it was. Regards Shane

Lowrance & Navman have fuel - I have the Navman 5505 and love it. I have the fuel flow meter attached and it is deadly accurate. I bought my plotter from the USA so if you want a bargain, check out some USA sites. Mine was at my front door in two days !!!

    dean,
Steer clear of Lowrance - way too many problems reported of late.
Have a look at Furuno, Raymarine or Garmin.

    Cheers

    Hi Dean1,

Just got my G2 Vision chart for my Garmin GPS MAP 525. I will take a few picks of the screen for you guys tomorrow. It has a great feature where you can navigate on what looks like a photo image. You can also change the amount of photo detail between the cartoon look map and the photo in increments of % ie 50% photo and %50 cartoon type map

Garry sounds very interesting. I would definitely like to see some pics of this feature.

Whilst the C-Map MAX card in my Navman is OK, I still think I am missing out on some detail, especially when zoomed in real close.
