Or is briad the way to go.. Recs on these brands for my applciations (also what breaking strain):

    Finns
    Yamatoyo PE
    Daiwa Sensor Tornamont
    Flamell PE
    Tuffline
    Spiderwire Fusion
    Stren Super Braid

Pure lure casting only - no bottom bashing.

I wouldn't use fireline for a overhead as it too stiff & causes alot problems when casting. Get a good PE like Yamatoyo or Flamell & you won't be sorry..

    THanks.

I want to put line on an ABU Reo Inshore which has 175yds @12lbs.

I assume these ratings are base don mono - hence what lb braking strain in the Yamatoyo or Flamell and amount shoudl I put on?

    Woudl 30lb braid be sufficeint?

Remember - only casting applciation off boat for big macks.

Also, what is an ideal rod (brand name) for this application (how long and how whippy)?

Just saw this thread plus your all the others.
Splash, you have offically pwned the tackle thread

I don't like spiderwire on baitcaster, for the above reason, too stiff.

You could use bionic braid, platypus braid or finns. There will be others, these are just the ones I am familiar with.

Splash i have been using fireline on all of my baitcasters for the last 3 years and don't have any trouble with the line being stiff, i have found that after a few casts the line tends to soften up a bit. Depending on reel size i use 10 to 14lb fireline pink with a flurocarbon leader.

    Cheers Damien

I wouldn't discount the Sufix Performance either not quite as dear as some of the others, but a very reliable braid,

Bass fanatic - does your fireline cut into your spool of line after laying into a heavy fish?

Never had it happen yet. I have used it out on the reef fishing trips as well as at the dams.

    Re: Fireline Recommendations

I had 10lb Fireline on a baitcaster which would birdnest quite badly. I switched over to Finns braid and I'm loving it. I am yet to get a birdnest with it. The Fireline will soften but until that happens I think the braid is the way to go.
