    Trouble with GME 27mhz radio?

HI, this is the second GME tranceiver I've had now and same problem? The thing seems to transmit ok because I can pick up the signal on a hand held one I have but I can't hear anything back? It is just the basic el cheapo white one with the inbuilt speaker. I pulled it apart thinking the speaker connections must be corroded or something but they're soldered. Would it be that the internal speakers blown? Like I said this is the second one I've had go like that. Is it a common problem?

    Many thanks in advance

Seems to me now It's a common problem with the GME 289 I think the modle is.
I had a s/hand one and there was little to no sound coming out. Hooked it to a new remote speaker and it still failed. Disconnected the speaker wire on the int speaker to bypass and it still failed. Sent it back for a refund.
I then bought a new Axis 27meg and have had it for a while and it's ok.
The axis is not waterproof and I got some water in it on the w/end and it went crazy. Pulled it apart and dried with compressed air and put it back together and it was ok but no sound. Scratched my head for hours trying to work it out, then I conected the mic back to the unit and it worked fine. Disconect the mic and no sound. Connected the mic, sound. I had it squelched to get feedback through the speaker, but only got sound when the mic was conected.
Now a test for your GME with waterproof style mic connector to main set, would be to pull apart and make sure conections are good at this point.
Don't ask me how, but it worked for me AXIS 27 meg.
