    Sounder Tips

    Hi All

I've recently purchased my first boat with a new sounder FCV620 and I'm on a learning curve. I am starting to learn to read the sounder and have only been using it at pic advance of 1/1. I was wondering what pic advance speed others use at anchor, drifting, trolling and generally searching.

What are the benefits/disadvantages of slower pic advance say..1/8 or faster say...4/1.

    All help appreciated

    cheers
    Allan

    Hi Allen,
The faster the screen scrolls the more recent the information displayed on the screen. If you go to A scope the information on the right hand side of the screen is real time, everything to the left is history. If you want to always have the most recent history on the screen you will want a faster pic rate. If you want a lot of history on the screen so you can get a better feel for things then you want a slower pic rate. I run my pic rate at full speed so I always have the most recent data displayed on screeen.

Also I have a PDF I can email you about how to tune a Furuno sounder for best results. You may find it helpful. If anyone wants this PDF just PM me with your email address and I wll send it to you.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks PP

    PM sent.

I'll have a read of the doc when you send it & I'll do some experimenting with the speed and A Scope

    Cheers

I run my Navman 6600 set to the fastest advance rate possible. I have read and believe that the faster the advance rate the more pixels can be used for definition of what is under the boat now, and that is really what you want, not what is scrolling off to the left.

Allan, I see you are from Yeppoon. What sort of boat did you buy? I might see you on the water sometime. There are a few of us locals posting on here, so we are not alone.

    Hi Rat

Recently bought a Yalta Allrounder 535 with a Yammie 115 4s. Had it a month and been out each weekend, no luck with the reefies yet but scored some macs the last few weeks.

Yes, I see there are a few locals on Ausfish - Bay-Firey, JT and Davez. Been fishing on and off round the Keppels for a few years, a few mates have boats and just felt the need to get my own.

I'd be interested in any M&G's or catching up with local Ausfishers.

I monitor VHF 21 and my callsign is SC416, so if you hear me about give me a call.

    cheers
    Al

Sounds like a good rig and good job on the macs. We have been a little frustrated lately trying to be in the right place at the right time! In any case it seems like we are getting a few locals on here, so maybe it is getting time for a M&G sometime soon.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Well if we all end up Monkey beach for a swim and a bbq , we always anchor up on edge of reef inside the bay there and do a cook up and go for a snorkel when we have the kids, we might all go for a chase of a spottie somwhere for a troll or something and the go there for lunch ?
    sunday is outfor us
but Saturday might be a goer

Sounds like a good option. I am leaving early tomorrow morning to chase some mackeral in close with my neighbour and then dropping him off and picking up my dad and heading to Douglas Shoals overnight. Will be home Thursday afternoon, so Saturday also could be a goer for me too. I won't be online again though until Thursday night.

    Re: Sounder Tips

Actually I was just thinking and checked the tides and low water is right in the middle of the day on Saturday, so this might not be the best. I always find Keppel better at high water, especially for the kids on the beaches. We might be better of delaying it until the tides are better. Thoughts? I know the main beach is a pain at low tide as you have to anchor so far out due to the way the bottom shelves.

    Hey Guys

I'm out for this weekend, then moving house the following weekend, then on holidays for a while so I'll be good for any date after 16th. Also if you're looking for a deckie/partner any day or an overnighter after the 16th then let me know.

    Cheers
