Well! what a topic guys!, I must say, I often think about this and the urge to fish. And also, there is a large element of non thinking...it just comes instinctively.
To fishing being a sport? well some do, but i say nay. When not fishing for a meal, I am practicing for my next meal....
It is hunting and and being able to provide in the event that this modern society collapses around us. It in our dna to be hunters.
That being said, its not all about the catching, its the sharing of techiniques, its the zen of rigging your gear, its finding beautiful parts of nature....and being alone and with others, its understanding the rhythms and cycles and nature.
