Re: Needing to get kids hooked on fishing
Even if u can get kids onto some bait fish herring , yakkas or the like , the action being quick is the key . Keep it simple to , handlines off the beach for whiting is a good start . If there are any squid about off the jettys up there go hard under the lights at night...maybe over at wynnum... Then send th squid down here

What about some undersized bream from one of the rocky man made edges in the tweed river, been years cannot see that situation changing, they will have fun catching lots of throwbacks on thinly sliced squid strips, you can fish a little wider for bigger bites.
Hope someone can give you more up to date advice.

Re: Needing to get kids hooked on fishing
If you are able to find some gutters on the beach which are reasonably deep and really close to the edge, have a go with some worms there. I catch my best whiting hauls in these boomerang shaped gutters. Fish the dropoff from the sand bar into the gutter.
good luck!

Re: Needing to get kids hooked on fishing
How about a trip over on the barge to Stradbroke Island?
There are lots of places over there to produce some decent fish plus the added thrill of the barge and an Island experience. Sure to give the kids a bigger thrill than some mainland rocky groin and throwback breambos.
Kids from the country get a really big buzz from crossing the water in any form of boat.
Jack.
