artical in courier mail... re review of moreton bay.

I opened the courier mail today and found an artical in a bloke from WA who is over here to "save the turtles" or something similar ...ok thats an over simplification but anyway.

this is in the fancy, glossy, toucky feely "Q Weekend" supliment.

anyway it is well worth a read...it only touches on some of the issues, but it might make a few of us aware of the " goings on" and the vocal interest groups sticking their oar into the moreton bay thing.

there are some saying that a lot more than 10% should be locked up.

check it out and bring your comments.

If there are those who know more........ I mean the FACTS.
I would be interested to hear.

we all need to understand what is going on....... form an informed opinion..... then make it known.............. don't wait for the government to ask.... it wont happen............form an opinion and get stuck into your local member.

    cheers

Yes it is an interesting read and certainly convinced me even more of the need to take action and be involved in the political process. This is important.

Also a good reminder of what a treasure the bay is...but then we don't really need to be reminded of that as surely we are all aware of it everytime we are lucky enough to venture out there in our boats or toss a line from the land.

I wouldn't say that if was unbiased with the slant it put onto statements about fishermen running into the realities of science.

HOWEVER, IMO that is one of the key issues, making sure that there is REAL SCIENCE involved in the decision making not just scientific justifications of a biased view for political ends. Thankfully there are attempts to get the real science heard in the debate as is indicated in the article and of course in the Ausfish thread from MBAA that I am sure we are all aware of (link below).

    hi,
notice how the green movement are upping the ante
last monday on the ch10 news was the story about sharks and on the same night 7 or 9 ran the turtle story
they are creating the warm fuzzies for the general public who don't fish or use the bay
time to be informed and have your say, or loose it forever
    cheers

I thought the article showed our side well after all we have the higher ground here. THis is our territory and we deserve to fish there. Grant summed it up beautifully by stating that there half of the states fishers fish here and we need access. If you close off the Bay where will we go?
