Thoughts on the Humminbird 727
G'day all,
I am currently toying with the idea of upgrading my Matrix 15 to a Humminbird 727 for the up & comming 1770 M&G. I'd like to stick with Humminbird so I can re-use the GPS receiver. I've found a lazy $600 & it looks like a reasonable buy and was after any feedback good or bad don't hold back

Hi Damo
You can get a 717 for a little over $400. Its a little less powerful (300 watts) and only has 320 vertical pixels apposed to the 640 of the 727. Apart from that its the same. I would either save up a bit more and get a colour one or settle for a 717 and spend the rest on beer and bait. The extra vertical pixels aren't going to make a big difference and the extra power will only be necessary if your fishing in water well over 100 mtrs.

Paul,
Thanks for the comments, I have been looking at the next model up from the 727 as well. A colour sounder does sound good . Will look into the 717 model, I'm after a bit more clarity (resolution) with readings over the Matrix 15. I'm trying to find a few more features on the GPS side of things as well, like a record for day trips like distance travelled for the day & other stuff.
