Thread: Barra Book

    Re: Barra Book

Harro, this book has been long awaited by many. The final product is even better than the proofs I've read over in the past. It would have been great to add some of the fiction Yarns that you are so good at. (guess I'll leave that carrot here for all to nibble on)

Harro, your writtings are uniquely yours, entertaining and valuable. You've astounded me with your ability to teach for well over a decade now in shared boats, river banks and endless hours in cars. You've added to my Barra knowlege bank yet again.

    Many thanks Mate.

Thanks Fitz - and everyone else - for the generous feedback.

The shift to Awoonga (I've kept my house on Bribie for when I might have to go back to bream and whiting) affords more time to write amid a quieter atmosphere. The guiding gets busy and sometimes gets really tough with first timers, but most end up with their fish.

I'm working on a novel - time to go out into the literary mainstream. About barra, bulldust, sex, drugs, rock 'n roll, bent cops, a poofter priest, a little aussie battler, leb crims who wear boxing gear but can't fight for shit, and a fallen
    angel.

It'll take most of 08 to finish but so far I'm very happy about the development of characters and pace of the plot and sub-plots.

On the fish front - the hatchery crew did some recent electro-fishing in the timber at the back of Everagh Creek, stunning some nice jacks in the sticks. Sounds like a pretty good lead, eh. If ever they were to take over a neighbourhood it'd be in the heavy sticks. I think we'll hear a bit more about the Red Rambo.

PS Family news? Another little Fitz?

Going to check out the BCF. What other stores in Townsville?

    Re: Barra Book

Try Pete Hazard at Tackle World.
Just spoken wth Ben at Pat's Tackle World at Gladstone and they're awaing a re-stock from ANF, so the Townsville shop should have them. BCF say that stocks are due any day now. Failing all, it can be purchased on-line at www.afn.com.au

    Hey Rod,

I'm looking forward to the novel mate. There may be a reference to Baked Beans in there, but hopefully no brothel creepers.

You'll have to wait and see, mate.
My publisher might cancel the contract if I say anymore.

Rod, it was fantastic meeting you with Jacques a week or more ago. And thank you for the knot advice. Knot one slipped (pun intended).

I couldn't put the book down on the way back to the Sunny Coast. It was good fortune for our crew that I was not driving

    Cheers
    Paul

Yep, landed a keeper, did the comfort lift; no gaff used.
51cm on the brag mat & pulled the scales down to 7 pound 10.
Wasnt quite a PB (last one was 53cm) but worthy af a few pics for the album.

    Cheers,

    Re: Barra Book

    Harro,
Congrats. Barra for me is an absolute cracker of a book, scientific explainations right through to good old Aussie spirit. You have captured the essence of Australia's iconic sportfish species with a heart & soul that is nothing short of memory overload. A saying comes to mind from my days showing dairy cattle at the EKKA & Royal Easter shows watching great dairy cattle judges send the best of the best to the top of the line for supreme champion honours " no doubt you have forgotten more about barramundi than most anglers will ever remember in their lifetime" Im sure others will agree this saying typifies your incredible knowledge & passion which simply floods through your book. Thank you and congratulations again.

    Cheers
    James
