    ABU 7000 Rachet

    Hi Team.

THe ratchet on my My ABU 7000 is wierd.

I do not know if this is a typical characteristis of these 7000's, but it is soft sounding and hardly sounds like a ratchet.

It also disengages itself if I rotate the spool back the other way - why?

PS - this does not happen on my 9000CL. Ratchet stays on and is very loud.

    THoughts please?

    Hi Splash,

I've got an Abu 7000LD (lever drag) and it has quite a loud ratchet. Never had it disengage before either. Sounds like something might be wrong with yours.

Mine's fairly new so I haven't had to do any work on it other than regular clean/lube, but these reels are fairly common, so more than likely someone here will be able to pull these reels apart in their sleep and can probably tell you what to do.

Good luck with it, I'm sure it's nothing major.

pretty sure the ratchet is controlled by a spring. Good bet your spring has either come loose or 'gone soft'! They are dead simple reels to take apart and service. Have a look yourself or take it in to a tackle shop.
