Heard they had a few issues with lids warping on some of the bigger ones up here in Darwin..... but you see lots of them around the place...

I use a tropical and love it ..tough as nails.... but it might clash with you boat colour..LOL

I have a small one for bait etc and the lid warped.

It might pay to keep a hessian bag or something sitting on the top when in the sun to give it a layer of sun protection.

Charleville do you have any pic's of the warped lid,Does it affect the lid closing or anything,Sounds like i need some poly sunscreen...LOL

I noticed they have a 5 year warranty so i guess if the lid gets real bad the company would fix it,"As you said" something covering it in the hot sun may be the go

Might need some suncream for the boat as well.
Quality is still delivering long after you have forgotten the price.

The Ice Cool's aren't bad for the money but don't quite match the Tropical's for quality. The screws are only galvanised steel so you want to spray them with something as they will rust.

It is an esky, you take them camping or fishing , they will be in the sun, if the lids warp because of the sun, they have not done there research when making the product, get refund, by better or more suited product.
I operate a surf school. I b ought some soft boards which fell apart in about a month, not cheap, maker tells me glues used are not uv tolerant!
Hello, its a surfboard, used on the beach, in the sun!!! What the$#%$#@

Here is one picture. More below...

Yes - it does affect closing but as it is just a smaller esky that I use for bait and never expect it to need to be cool for more than a day, I have never worried about it - too lazy to take it back to the shop - I think that it was about a $35 purchase. It warped within 6 months of purchase. Note also the rusty screws and how the stitching in the handle came adrift on the other side of it so that the handle is useless to me now also.

Likewise, I am not happy with the big yellow esky that you see in my pix in my various posts. It is a poly version made by the same company and the quality of its manufacture is very poor. Again, it does the job and since I bought it at Sundown which is a long way from me, I have never been bothered to take it back. Both of these eskies are only 2 - 3 years old now.

If this is the quality of the Aussie made stuff, give me the Chinese manufactured stuff at a cheaper price, please.

Next time I would buy a Tropical, I only ever hear good reports about them.

    Re: IceKool Ice Boxes

I was lucky enough that a bloke I know ownes a tackle shop here in Darwin and he tests all of the new eskies before he stocks them.... leaves them out in the full sun to see if they will hold ice for a full day and to se if they warp lids...

Hence the reason I went straight to a tropical ice box... I had a 62 ltr one on the back of my work ute for 3 years in very very harsh conditions (a grass fire vehicle) and it never had any issues.... same with the 160ltr... great bit of kit...
