    Help, My 4runner Died

G'day all i started my 89 2.4 deisel 4runner this morning and after a minute of warming up it died. It is acting as if it run out of fuel but has plenty. I was told that the primer on the fuel filter under the bonnet has probly died, any Ideas ??
I thought that the fuel pump may have shit itself.

    Could be something really simple.
Like blocked fuel filter, loose hose conection. Do some prodding and poking under the bonett.

Th primer on the fuel filer is for bleeding it after you change the filter or run out of fuel.
Bleed it where it connects to the pump, ie loosen the nut off half a turn and jump up and down on the primer. If no air bubbles come out it is probably the pump. If air bubbles do come out you could have a perished/cracked rubber fuel hose, clamp not secure, fuel filter not sealed. When was the filter last changed? They do clog up.

Crack the fuel lines going into the injectors. then pump the primer (it should pump fuel out) if it does pump fuel try leaving the line cracked and crank the motor over.(once again should squirt fuel out)
i would also change the filter before i go too far.

you should also see if your shut off is working correctly ignition off then on the shut should open and close.

Where the fuel line is dry near the primer have you tried blowing back through the line to hear bubbles in your fuel tank.

Might be a bit of plastic blocking the pick up who knows what can get put in there if you haven't got a locking fuel cap.

Sounds like you have something in your fuel line or have flattened the line going over a rock or something.
This is a good thing, considering the alternative could have been a stuffed fuel pump or clogged injectors. Get under there and check the lines all the way back to the tank. Blow some compressed air from the primer end back to the tank.
It might then pay drain the tank or even take it out and make sure nothing is in there.

I had a similar problems many years ago in a Nissan. What happened is that a baffle in the fuel tank wiggled it's way loose and wedged the fuel pickup so that it sat high in the tank, fuel gauge said I had 1/2 a tank, but it was simply sucking air.

    Good luck,
