    Yes Matt , you are correct. Trawlers do not sell reef fish. Trawlers are simply inanimate objects.

    The skippers of those trawlers are the ones selling reef fish. Don't kid yourself, if you think that no trawler skipper hasn't got a line licence or a good mate with a line licence, then you do not know anything about this industry.

    There is a thing called BY-Catch....... and that is legal.

    Further, I would not dob in the skipper that run a shot at the ledges off Mooloolaba... why,, cause one day he'll get it a little bit wrong and we'll have another artifical reef to drop our SP's on.

    There is a trawler already on the bottom out there ( actually many ), but this one was doing exactly what I described in my earlier post. You may know it, it is in 104mtrs of water......

    We are too far off the subject and we all know ( apparently ) what's happening out there.

    Yeah very patronising Chilli well done. I know a little about the industry chilli and I know that the majority of trawl operators aren't willing to risk their boats for a few extra bucks from selling reef fish illegally. You obviously know some guys doing the wrong thing so maybe you should dob them in and get rid of these blokes?

    I have pushed this before in different threads but I'll say it again. By spending the estimated cost of these green zones (has to be significant when comparing the GBRMP model) on Artificial reefs then leaving these open during lock out periods can only enhance the industry in the bay. More habitat = more fish = sustainability. I don't have a problem with lock out periods one little bit, it's a far better option than total lock outs for the entire year.

    There is a real oportunity here to not only keep the bay a great place to fish but actually significantly increase the effectiveness of this great fishery.

    One of the major differences between Moreton and the Great Barrier Reef is the vast difference in habitat. Fish holding habitat is far less abundant in Moreton and by creating a heap more by the way of Artificial reefs we have an opportunity to "spell" the natural habbitats without a real impact on fishing.

    The way I see it we have 2 options: 1) Go with the greenzones and dish out Hundreds of Millions in compo, kick the industry in the guts and have everyone resenting all things that come out of the EPA or;

    2) Spend the same in fishing infustructure(reefs etc) increase the effectiveness of the fishery and increase the income back to the public coffers through the increase in tax revenue etc.

    I'm no polly or marine expert but it seems to me there is only one option in my eyes but i'm sure the fisho hating greenies will win anyway.

    Cheers Chris

    I agree to a certain extent with what you propose but in the interests of balance I would point out that it is not yet proven whether artificial reefs increase fish stocks, or provide a focus point for existing stocks.
    Having said that give me some more structure to fish,,, and I will fish it.
