    Awoonga Overniter

    Hello All.
I'm holidaying at 1770 soon for a couple of weeks , and am planning to do a overniter at Awoonga just for something different.
A couple of questions - Is there still enough water at the main ramp to launch a 6m tinnie?- I was ok there same time last year.
and any suggestions on where any barra have been turning up will also be appreciated. We had to stay 3 days last year because it took us 2 days to work out how to catch them.

Hi Just got back from there and good news they have just put a whole new load of gravel at the end of the ramp. You will launch your tinney no worries or even off the side, esp. withh a 4WD. It was an almost 30cm drop off the concrete before and most peple were launching off to the side of the ramp. How long it stays tho will be interesting as it can wash away easily with the onshore waves. it was nice to come back in and retrieve the boat normally.
Yep they are hard for occasional visitors to track in Awoonga as everyday can be different. We did two days and nailed them the second afternoon. (See my other post in reports) A lot of people we met fished two or three days with nothing. Wind direction and water temps are really an issue, find the warmer water down wind in the shallow bays, especially late afternoon, say 3pm till dark. Anchor up in front of or beside and Cast to weed beds. Seems at the moment midday is very hard, with none caught at all during the day that we heard of, even with the guides.

Thanks Barraboy - I'll be there after I catch a few Spanish Mackerel off 1770.
