when do the jacks really start

    hey guys,

well all this talk of jacks is starting to get me pumped up for the coming season
just wondered when you all plan to start fishing for them seriously.

is it too early to start chasing them with any reliability....?

i think i got done the other night but i guess it could have been anything,

which month do they really start..

    any tips appreciated

no real month as such. once the water temp gets up a bit, they should become more active.

To add this this, i would not only like to know when they start coming on strong but also when the jew start disappearing from the rivers?
Not enough time in the day, to many spots to fish!

    Hi Yella
Slightly off subject, I have heard a theory from someone who should know, that Jacks are at their most aggressive when they first come on and then again just before they go off into hibernation. Theory is they are hungry as hell coming out and storing up fat going in.
    Interesting ha!

I have had my best jacks fishing right a the start of summer and right at the end of summer, for two weeks at the end of summer 3 years ago we were getting about 4-8 jacks a night and they were almost always over 50cm with some of the smaller ones being high 40s,i dont know what was going on in them two weeks but we have not had a sesh like that again.

The jacks are on NOW, the season is open. Ive only had one go for em so far, as Im still targeting jew (unsuccessfully).

I spoke to a guy at the ramp this week, who said he was getting em already on poppers. Hes a bream ABS comp guy who said he got 89 jacks last season! Released em all too.

My source at the the tackle shops reckon jews are still on for another 2 mths roysdy.

    cheers

Had some sucess last season with the atomic prongs, they now come in a 4 inch which look sh!t hot. I'll probably give my jack spots a bump towards the end of september when i'm on my mid semester break.

bait live mullet whiting or herring or even live prawns and also mullet flesh fished lightly near any strusture with a hole or drop off.

    Hi Ken
Bait & hardbodies, never tried sp's but sure they would work fine, maybe this season.

just wondered how you rigged em for the jacks last summer,
    ive been using a 1/20 TT on a 1/0 i think,

    Yep, they're around.
Phone call fro Nickyboy yesterday informing me of2 dropped fish with a donation of 1 x lure to a cracker inspired me to get serious. Stocked up on a few choice HB's and hit it today (Nicky in tow).
Water temps the key fellas and peaked around 24.3 degrees. Spotted a few huge Jacks and donated one of my own HB's to a healthy little Devil's lunch time snack. Castaway snapping sounded like a gun going off. No more squire for Richie..............The fever's setting in.
