    Changing of the guard

Not sure if this is fishing news... but it sure is news:

    Premier and Minister for Trade
    The Honourable Peter Beattie
    10/09/2007

It's Time for Renewal I have given a great deal of thought to Queensland's future since my speech to the Party Conference in June and those considerations were taken into account at last Monday's Strategic Cabinet Meeting.

The Government has a strategy for the future and now we need new leadership to take Queensland forward.

Accordingly, I shall resign as Premier effective at 10.00am Thursday.

Caucus will meet on Wednesday to elect a new leader.

I have tried to build a new Queensland based on the Smart State during my time as Premier and I would hope that my commitment to the Smart State remains at the core of future Governments regardless of their political persuasion

Heather and I and our family are looking forward to a new life. We have not yet made any decisions about what that will entail other than we intend to have a long holiday.

Renewal is vital for the future of any government or political party and the election of Anna Bligh as Premier wil l provide that renewal.

There any many things about the American political system with which I disagree, but there is one aspect that I strongly agree with and that is their two term limit of eight years for Governors and their President.

I have stayed for over nine years and two months, but that was to work on the construction of the watergrid and to deal with Council amalgamations. Both of those are now well advanced.

I want to thank Queenslanders for their support and while we have had our successes and failures along the way, all I have ever tried to do is my best for Queensland.

I wonder what implications this will have on the new fishing closures?

I cant imagine Anna Bligh (or as my wife likes to call her."f#$@^&'n lying b!tch" , she used to work in her department), being very sympathetic to the fisher people. May be we will get even more closures?

Damn now I'll have to write a letter to the new premier to.

I would think that whoever is leading the party is secondary to influencing your local member. Local members have to be convinced they will loose their seat if fishing is disrupted. If Anna has 5 or six members bringing it to her attention, I think it would hold more weight. That is not to say the Premier shouldn't recieve a letter also.

I'm beginning to think Joh wasn't bad. Atleast we wouldn't have the water crisis or electricity issues and we sure as hell would have the EPA...

I don't want to get into the politics of it all, but I will say, that Mr Beattie has called it quits on his own terms for his own reasons...... Maybe.... I know a certain ex-minister is in prison for trying to blackmail ( expose ) him, and details of that threat have never been made public. It is interesting that, that ex-minister is due for release from prison soon ( or may already have been ).

    I love a conspirosy theory.....

Mr Beattie is a self proclaimed ' Media tart " just like the late " Joh " was, and in fact he tried to model himself on the long serving premier. Although it was believed that the " Joh " era was tainted because of certain payments to certain business's, Joh got the State going with enormous amounts of funding for infrastructure, something Mr Beattie forgot to take into account while trying to Joh-a-fye himself.

Is this news........... I suppose so. Will it matter after 10am Thursday ?

    All IMO..... only.
