Of the political parties that have shown an interest in, and approached me in relation to an alliance for the Federal Election, the AFLP has not been one of them, but the TFP have, as have Family First and also one of the Major Parties.

I am still reluctant to hang my hat with anyone at this moment, particularly with the registration of the TFP still in the balance, and the official separation of the AFLP still being incomplete. Reading KC's post regarding cancellation of memberships, I cant help but see the implication that AFLP is looking to make the decision for me.

That being the case, if I have to make a choice between AFLP and TFP, I must admit my most practical choice at the moment tends towards the TFP as my only option to support the Fishing Vote.

    Hi Shane,

Thank you for being open in your response to my question. I appreciate that a lot and it helps little novices like me to understand more of the situation we are faced with between people, parties and the upcoming election.

    Cheers.

Having wasted an enjoyable 40 minutes skimming through this one thing struck me - if the amount of time and effort put in by Ausfish members writing and posting had been directed outwards (pick a target - Howard, Beattie, etc) that would have significantly raised the profile of recreational fishermen and their concerns at state and federal level.

Thats a very poor assumption on your part. How do you know people havent been writing to their pollies as well as editors to newspapers. Just because they aren't bragging about it ?????

Thanks for posting that Derek. There are a lot of people from here that are doing their bit and sending emails and letters, joining the parties such as the AFLP and offering their support where applicable. There are lots of people wanting to make a difference and doing the do to safe Moreton Bay, and any other fishing place that is around the country being threatened by shut outs over sustainable management.
    Cheers,
    Chris

Not to mention attending the first AFLP(hopefully) party meeting On Saturday in Cairns. Everyone in the one place to discuss among other things how to tackle current problems facing rec fishers. I have to agree with kc, individual complaints and noise to pollies is NOT working. Time to present a LARGE unified approach. Join the AFLP, numbers aka votes DO actually mean something to pollies. Shut outs up here in nrthQLD have hurt, for no measureable improvement. Don't let it happen in the bay. The more the greenies take the more they seem to want.
