anything any style for flattys aslong as it moves they will eat anything thrown at them and in the meantime a bream might just grab one of those plastics.
I know, there has been a million and one posts about SP's...I finally have got a spin set-up and am keen to learn the ways of SP's. Shimano Symetre reel loaded with 6lb fireline on matching shimano rod.
What is a good "go to" lure for someone starting out chasing Bream...or Flathead? I need a few colours/styles that work.
Is it the same as with other lures...dark water, dark lure and vice versa for clear water?
If someone would like to meet up and show me the ropes...would be hugely appreciated!!! (I'll even pay for fuel, food and drinks!!) I live on the Nthside of Brisbane and fish the sunshine coast mainly (Noosa River, Maroochy River).
Cheers

"True Blue"
the perfect start out plastic would have to be the 2 and 3 inch gulp swimming mullets in any coulor but pumkinseeds a good all rounder use light jig heads for bream 1/32 oz and heavier ones for flatties 1/4oz and up
I don't do too much sp bream fishing anymore but did once, my two biggest bream have come off 80mm squidgy wrigglers in the bloodworm colour. In fact most 2 to 3 inch grubs in red/bloodworm/pumpkin seed seem to do pretty well.
Cheers Chris
Mike,
Personally, for me I like the 3'' Bass Minnow in Smelt scales for Flathead, and for Bream, I like the 2" Berkeley Baby Shrimp.
Both these plastics will catch either species and others such as Trevally, Queenies, Cod and other estuary species.
They are very versatile and are my favourite allrounders in the Noosa River.
Cheers Jeff.
Cheers for the advice...heading down to BCF this afternoon...
Hoping the weather is ok tomorrow so I can get out and have a crack...brand new spin outfit..first time with braid and has not touched the water cause of the weather lately...frustrating! I want to use my new toy! *jokes*
I cant help you much with bream but for flathead, as said most will work but I have a preference for Gulps rigged alone or on a rev head jig head with a gold blade in the 5inch size.
Went to BCF...Got 1pkt of Atomic 3" "Prong" in Carolina Pumpkin Holo and Squidgies "Wriggler" 65mm in Bloodworm and matching Nitro Jig Heads.
That plus the SP's I already have should get me on the right path *fingers crossed*
Other SP's are Gulp Grubs, power minnows and some assorted squidgies.
Those atomic prongs are awesome, have accounted for many of my flatties recently... In fact using them almost exclusively now
Some days you get to be the dog, other days you're just the hydrant......
agree with shin25. Swimming mullet pumpinseed or squidy fish killer tomato are my favourites to use. Even set up a live bait always works good as well
cheers alex
My goto lure for numbers of bream are 2in gulp shrimps. All colours work but natural and new penny are stand outs for me. Attomic prongs are an awesome lure for surface fishing for bream and nailed me alot of fish last summer.
As everyones been saying, Flathead will eat just about anything that moves. Some of my favourites are 100mm Squigie shad in green tiger and red rum, Gulp 3in pogys, 5in jerk shads and 5in attomic prongs in smoke core.
Cheers Whytey
I got a tub of the new "Gulp Alive" and while I don,t believe they are any better than the old gulps at catching fish, I like the buckets better than the packets. This flatty was victim to the p/seed minnow. A lot more flatties willbe caught on these babies.
For bream my favourites are squidgy wrigglers in bloodworm and berkley bass minnows in watermelon. Flathead will eat anything if its on the bottom but I usually go to a squidgy fish/shad in gary glitter or red rum. Good luck mate.
