Sneaky Creek Bass Mission - 04-09-07

Well it wasnt the nicest weather today with a good 25knots of S/E and some rain.... But I decided to battle the conditions and have a land based bass fish.....The barometric pressure looked good at 1021 so that lifted the spirits.
Off to sneaky creek I go.....

First cast with an unweighted plastic and I got a tap which was encouraging then on the second cast Bang and I am on..... landed a small fella of about 30cm....The bass in this creek fight super hard and if you dont stop them they brick you very quickly in the millions of snags the creek has.
I took the light stick to...6lb braid and 10lb leader....which I started to think was a worry.
For the next two hours I landed bass after bass and the final tally was 13 bass landed up to 45cm and 5 bust offs to some good fish that beat me in the snags.
Awesome session and great fun on the light gear although a little nerve racking at times.
All fish were caught on plastics using Atomic paddle tails 2 1/2 inch in pumkinseed charteuse and Gulp 2inch shrimp in the new penny colour.
    All fish naturally...were released.

    Cheers
    Pete

    Pete thats a great session!

There's a few of those sneaky creeks down here too and there's nothing like pulling wild bass out of those tight snags when you're on the bank! Mate of mine took me to a spot of his recently and we did the same thing (but didn't get that many fish!!) and the reward is better when you walk steeper and longer to get to the spot!!

    Top report

    Pistol,

Top report mate. Pleasing to see so many wild bass out there willing to smash a lure. Not after your secret spot mate, but that place looks very similar to a stretch of Kin Kin Creek I once visited?

    Cheers,

    Bruce

Spot on....The longer the walk the better it is.

Well done thats a good session. Looks like the water level is up nice and high which is good news for the system. That could be anywhere which i think is the best part wild bass fishing.

    Hi Pete,
Just wondering the condition of the fish ? Do you think they had recently gone over the wall ?? If so did you put them back up top or was it to far to go back ??
All of this is assuming where you were.

It's a tuff call, if the are impoundment fish that have gone over a wall you'd expect them to be alot fatter, but it depends which dam they'd have come from. post spawn fish normally are really skinny and there guts are sucked back in. The cut and bumps on a few of them also make me think they've just gone over a spill way but really who knows apart from Pete. Attached is a photo of a fat impoundment fish i got from ewan maddock on sunday and a post spawn tweed river bass to give an indication of the extremes in girth from pre and post spawn females.

the red marks on the fish look like parasites. often find the wild bass covered in them in the tweed. but not so much on impoundment fish.

Nice work pete. you're kidding about the saw tho' huh.

    cheers, roo.
