g'day everyone,

i have a tracker 5430 with external antenna. my boat has a side console and was told i could mount it on the front of the console. in the instructions it shows it in level positions. does it have to sit level to get the best preformance, because it will be sitting side ways on the front of my console.

It will work OK as long as the antenna is mounted in position that will give it a 360 deg view of the horizon. The antenna is designed to point upwards.
The plotter screen can be anywhere in any position but it may be a tad difficult to use on its side. You will get used to it, although with a sore neck, but surely you can mount the screen somewhere where it too is vertical.

sorry mate, i meant that the antenna will be mounted side ways which maybe no good because it will not get 360 deg. of the sky. the screen has plenty of room beside the sounder!

i installed my navman plotter the other day-what a machine-it even has 180 degree pic's of important area's like....flinders,the cape,bars,harbours..sweet
