starter motor probs

hi all great site..have a 85hp evinrude v4 when starting at first alls i get is a click at the starter motor it dont turn after a few goes its starts to turn a little bit then after more goes it moves more and more then finaly after about 30 turns of the key its fully spinning then starts ,,,, the rest of the day its fine and starts first go untill i go out again any ideas thanx colin

I had exact same prob about a month ago, only thing that differed was, that mine would not start at all with the keystart (would with pullstart)...
Ended up being the brushes were shot in the starter motor...

thanx ash i read some other stories bout this problem on the net 9/10 cleaned all there terminals and everything was fine after...so i tried today cleaned all terminals battery solanoid ect still the same pulled sterter motor out will get the bushes this week let you know how i go...colin

check the solenoid as well.

thanx all pulled starter out hooked it up to battery works fine replaced solenoid it starts every go thanx for your help.....and to affordable boats at moorebank who gave me the used solenoid for free.......
