You bring hope to alot of anglers that will be heading up to monduran in the next month or so. How do you find putting the skeeter through the timber.

Awesome pics too. Do you find the stiffy boneys need a bit of speed to get lure to do its slow roll action. I have only 1 of the bonies but I have found it needs quiet a bit of speed to get the action going and out of the strike zone to quick.

I will persevere with it though as they have great potential.

    Cheers

Gday Aaron' Yeah the Skeeter fits in more places than i previously thought possible..... but there are times when a 12 tinny would be handy.
The Stiffy Boney needs a little bit of pace to get rolling but it's not to fast for Active hungry Barra' It is a bit fast if they are in the wrong mood though! But it can be used like a Jerk Bait if required. It is a great fishing tool but will not always be suitable! 1 or 2 will live in by tackle box though! As you would well know things can change fast and what works today will not always work tomorrow .

    Cheers Les

    Great report and pics, Les.

I'm heading up to Monduran in late October with a mission to put my 15 year-old son onto his first barra. Your early success for the season makes October look very promising.

Must drop into Foxies in Gin Gin and check it out.

    Gidday Les

Long time no speak mate. thanks for the encouraging report. We'll be heading up to Awoonga in late Oct, but may stop in at Monduran on the way home. Great to see some hungry fish again....let's hope the worst of the colder weather is gone for the year.

    Cheers

    Re: Monduran Barra Update!!

Just noticed your darker coloured leader and clip. What are you actually using - it obviously doesn't spook the fish?!

I'm looking at some sort of lure changing system without re-tying the knot and having to add a new leader from time to time as it gets too short.

I also like the Tuf Line braid but am using 30lb rather than 65lb, which easily handled a 98cm fish (but in open water).

    Any thoughts?

    Gday Pete'
Yeah mate the leader system is a doubled twisted length of 150 lb Power Pro Braid or sometimes even 200lb doubled " The Barra don't worry or care about the visability !" I usualy run a #6 Cross Lock snap! Halco do the Cross Locks in small packets if ya can find em? Or some will get em in bulk for ya.They are good, but should be replaced every day with a new snap as they get a bit soft after prelonged use and frequent lure changes. I a have never had one open on me as yet in 4 years or so that i've used them...... But i have seen and heard of them open up very rarely on other users though! You will get dozens or hundreds of cut offs on heavy leaders before you loose fish to a fresh 120 lb Cross Lock snap.

    Cheers Les

Cheers Les. Appreciate the information. I'll look for the 'Skeeter' when I'm at Monduran in October. Always happy to say giday to a fellow Ausfisher!

great report les, you put forward a good argument for a fishing trip to monduran, there's just not enough days off in a year damnit. awoonga and I were all packed up for a day trip there today but we were too scared of melting in the rain and we stayed home. oh well there's all ways another day. thanks.
