A Week On The Bay (new Pb)

Hows it going guys

After seeing this weeks weather forecast i couldn't help but put in a week of leave to go fishing .

MON- I headed out to mud early afternoon for a drift around to see if there was any action after 4 hrs of fishing and pulling in numerous 34cm models i pulled the pin and called it a day.

Tues- I decided to venture a bit further and hit spot X at about 6.30am . After speaking to Glenn and hearing that he had nearly bagged out on 60+ models hopes where high and i didn't have to wait long for the reel to start screaming after I gained back my 200m of line I saw the colour of what would be my PB for snapper , a healthy 60cm model managed to find its way into the esky. After a while things went quiet so I decided to head back to the ramp at about 1.30pm.
About half way back to the ramp i got a phone call from LOVEY 80 to see if I wanted to head out for a fish. I couldn't resist I headed back in and refueled and we were off back to spot X with nothing but cod on the chew we decided to cut our losses and head back at around 5.30PM


Wed- Back to spot X and met up with Neil and Glenn I managed to boat a 42 and 35cm model. At one stage during the day I had to get Glenn to jump onboard to help me chase down a freight train (Cobia or Kingy probably)
To no avail. Cheers for the help guys it defiantly made it a little easier to fight it.


Thurs- You guessed it back out to spot X at around 6.00am. First cast a double hook up one a freight train that spooled me and the other a 36cm model, things went a little quite for about an hour and just as i thought things may have shut down ZZZZZZZZZZ both reels started screaming after a hectic few moments of trying to grab both rods i manged to boat a 38 and 42cm model. things really went quite at the top of the tide so I cut my losses and headed home at around 12pm.

All fish were caught on 5" jerk shad Lime Tigers on either 3/8-1/2 jighead with 3/0 hook

The question now is do I go out tomorrow for another bash.......................

If you think you might be lacking the enthusiasm to go out again Russ, think of people LIKE ME who can't get out for a while, and I am sure you will be tanked up again and ready to go!!

The LT's are fantastic and definitely my choice, but one other that is definitely worth a try too is the Mango ripple 3" shrimp.....

I will defiantly have to get back amongst it the increase the PB.
Fingers crossed Chris hopefully we hit some big ones on sunday

dieter-after a minor problem which i managed to fix myself the motor is running great i now only use about 10-15 l going from redcliffe to tangalooma i do however miss the extra top end speed during glassed out conditions i have managed to put about 30hrs on it in about 8 weeks.

loophole- spot X is nth of dum

scalem- cheers for the tip i might have to go and get me some of the shrimp and test it out

Well done Russ. After having a whole day off fishing and seeing the weather turning bad next week I will definately see you out there in the morning. I'll be on bankers hours as I have a few things to do on the boat before I go (tides are good for a late start in any event).

Well done Russ! Glad to see someone is getting out for a productive fish,it's been 15 days since I've wet a line (not that I'm counting) but atleast its given me a chance to do a few things to the tinnie. Good luck for tomorrow and hope you upsize that PM.

Hey Russ - whats your "technique". Am I reading this right in that you are fishing 2 rods, both with a plastic? Do you just cast em out and sit there and wait? There was another report earlier in the week(forget who) who caught a big snap in a similar fashion. The term used was "deadsticking, with the bail arm left open"

I'm just curious cause I'm still trying to work what works with this whole plastic caper. I've had some good results, but I really struggle for consistency.

I'm just curious cause I'm still trying to work what works with this whole plastic caper. I've had some good results, but I really struggle for consistency.

Many people working plastics fish with 2 rods or 3 if solo, 1 (or 2) is usually set in a rod holder as a 'drifter' and the other is usually worked by the angler. Because this type of fishing is done on the drift the lure is always moving and the boat moving and rocking imparts subtle action on the lure as well. You would be surprised how often the 'drifter' produces the goods.
