    Mt Rinjani Crater Lake

    howdy folks
just a quick report on my most recent fishing
took a trip with family and a mate to indonesia to climb mt rinjani
mt rinjani is an old volcano with a huge crater that has filled up to create a big lake with a lot of fish including carp and snapper
the locals spend a lot of time fishing there with a variety of methods, small nets, rods(mainly telescopic cos you have to carry them up there) and bamboo fishing poles.
my mate and i tried with a bamboo pole that we borrowed for a few hours but unfortunatley we had no luck although there was a local guy who came past with a big carp and several smallish snapper
eventually we gave up and had a swim in the lake, the locals told us that it is 300m deep at the deepest point.
i wouldnt recommend the 4 day hike just for the fishing but the summit of this mountin was spectacular at sunrise.
a good trip was had by all

g'day schoesno1, I am curious what these "snapper" are they locals catch in this lake?? I presume it is freshwater seeing they are also catching carp, or could that be some foreign saltwater version i do not know about?

I've heard of some volcano craters in Indonesia that are fed by undersea rivers and the craters are full of normal sealife including jellyfish.

well im not really sure if this lake had any under ground fed river or something as such
our guide and other locals called them snapper and i saw a few but didnt reall inspect them
it might be that they have just named these fish snapper
the water is definetly fresh cos we swam in it
There are three types of people in this world
    1. those who can count
    2. and those who cant
