Trim motor == huge performance difference..

    Hi,

I have a 4.3M Stacer with 30HP Mariner - Both are around 1990 Models. The Mariner has 5 positions for trim(Manual pin)....first couple of times I've taken it out by myself(trim stop pin on the third hole), I found at low speeds the nose sits quite high(Which makes seeing in front of the boat difficult, and a little dangerous when on the broadwater on a weekend!)....when she gets on the plane(Which was quite quickly when the trim was at position 3), then there is no probs.

I took her out on the weekend with a mate(So an extra 90kg's), and tried the stop pin on the second hole, but it was extremely sluggish out of the hole, and took forever to get onto the plane - I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try trim pos. 3 with 2 in the boat as we ran out of light.

Would one trim hole/extra 90kg account for the huge difference in performance? I was really surprised, and thought there may have been something wrong with the engine(Although it started first pop, and was not running rough)

    Mick.

I have a 3.9 quiny with a 25hp, I run it on the 1st or 2nd hole solo (2nd if have esky ect. up front) and on the 3rd with a passenger, you'll feel the difference.
    Cheers TT

Yes and No! but for sure you cannot know until you prop it down to somewhere kinder to the engine.

IMO unless the engine just started playing up during your test it's a proping issue. Bonus is, you can add 50%+ to the life of the engine, so a very cost effective purchase.

      cheers fnq
