Internal Mounting of Transducer???
Hi Guys, I'm picking up a new sounder soon and have thought about mounting the transducer near the bow inside the hull (poly boat 6mm skin). Has anyone done the same and were there any real problems doing so? The sounder is a Humminbird 737. BLA recommend a professional do it, is it neccessary?
Cheers

Re: Internal Mounting of Transducer???
HI Blacksheep.
I went all the way with my "brick" 600W ducer for my F585 - fiberglassed the hard plastic shroud onto bottom of the inside of my hull near bow and in between external strakes - all good with crisp picis.
Yes - get a Pro to glass it in - somehow to poly hull. I spent $300 on paying a pro to do it properly

Re: Internal Mounting of Transducer???
Hi, If you havnt done this already, keep it in mind that when mounting in hull, you can loose up to 200w of transducer power, depending on hull thickness, even tho hanging them offf the back looks crap and sends a bit of spray, you do get the full power. 1kw would be the only one i would consider for inhull, providing headunit will take it etc

Re: Internal Mounting of Transducer???
You will lose a minimum of 20% of your sonar power shooting thru the hull. You also need to make sure that you mount it where it will be shooting thru a solid section of the hull. If there is any foam in the hull it will not work.
If I remember correctly the 737 is a quadra beam. The 455khz frequency which gives you the 90 degree cone angle will not work in a shoot thru hull application. The dual beam will but not the quadra beam so you are defeating the purpose of buying the 737.
Mount in on the transom. Thats how it was designed and you will be much happier with the performance.
Good Luck!

Re: Internal Mounting of Transducer???
If all you are worried about is a rooster tail or spray on your motor from a transom mounted transducer - go to Northside marine - they have a transducer cover that fits to the transom with 3 screws and sits ofer it like a "hat" and stops any transducer spray over your outboard and makes it look a lot nicer - they have them powder coated in white also...
