I wouldn't consider that boat with any less than 150hp on the back.
Why pay good money on a new boat that is a bit underpowered?
To spend over 40 grand and then to skimp a couple of grand to have an underpowered motor doesn't make sense to me.
It's just a typical sales stunt to make the boat more affordable, which is a shame because I think the Yalta's offer real value anyway, but like any boat need the appropriate HP to perform well.

    Greg,
I have just bumped a thread on this yalta back to the top.
We have made some comments about the horsepower.
I think i would be going atleast 150.
I am sure Steve from Marine Tune would be more than happy to take you for a test drive if you showed real interest.
Take at least 3 heafty mates to put some weight at the transom area to get a good judge of the motor capability.
If you haven't got the mates to go i am sure some of us 555 yalta owners would be happy to go and play in the 615.

    Greg,

I think the 615 is pretty top shelf and even thought about trading the 555 on one with at least a 150 4/s on it but i have to stop spending and pay off a few bills.

Bumped a thread, have a look at the boating list of threads and there is one about 615 yalta about 3 or 4 down. There are a few comments from us that would interest you.

    Re: new yalta odessa

Greg my 555 has the 115 which is the minimum for that boat. I would suggest 150 for the 615.
Is that deal with a Redco trailer or the Brooker.
One of those is a good trailer the other needs work before I would put it near salt water.

    Cheers,

    Re: new yalta odessa

I had a 615 Odessa until Xmas time last year, I had a 200hp Yamy 4 stroke on the back. Yes it did get along well, for me a min of 175hp on the 615 if your going to use this for regular offshore work, also consider a set of trim tabs, this was the best extra I put on that boat.

I would in retrospect have spent the extra grand and gone for the Redco trailer. I have had them before and should have gone that way again.
Mate if you are at Woody Point, I'm at Margate.
I can take for a run or you can get an owners perspective firsthand.
Send me a PM if you are interested.

    Re: new yalta odessa

    Hi all

I have had the pleasure of an offshore trip in a 615 with a 200 opti on the back. Went like a rocket.I'm in agreeance with most of the guys that a minimum of 150 would be reqired, they are a big boat. Also the trim tab option makes sense the one I went on had them and used them the whole way back from the shelf. Made a huge difference.
