Hi all, I was just wondering if it is possible to mount an electric trolling motor to the bow of a run-about, or would it be better for me to purchase a transome mount?
The reason i ask is that ive just got into lure fishing and require a small engine to position the boat better when casting.
Should be OK so long as you buy a specific bow mounted model, they make them for either fitting, ie Bow mount or transom mount
Bow mount is good for what you describe because it gives you the freedom to operate the motor by foot pedal remote, or if you are flash with cash, a hand held remote controller model is available from the Minn Kota range
It all depends on how much you have to spend
If men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, politicians must be from uranus ?
I had this same dilemma and ended up going for a transom mount, but on my boat is was still annoying to use and it didn't work real well (ie was hard to hold the boat into the current, fish while still having to control the motor and no auto pilot etc etc) Coupled with the tight fit into the outboard well I ended up ditching it, I have though about a bow mount but it would be pain to get to, you would have to step out on the front to drop it in and take it out etc etc, The only thing i could come up with was if i got a bow mount to mount it on the right hand side towards the front of the boat just in front of the windscreen so you could put it in and take it out easy by leaning over the windscreen. Only thing is i don't know how well it would work mounted there, i have been told by the sales people it 'should' work fine and they know of people that have mounted it there or on the gunwale towards the front but i have never seen or spoken to any one with this type of setup. Any comments from anyone running this type of setup?
thanks for the info guys, i might give it a go and fit a bow mount and see how it goes, if you see a fool flickin lures from the bow of his runabout come over and say gday
