Clarrie Hall Dam 18/8/2007
My brother and I met up for a fish at this majestic dam.
We headed out from crams farm casting surface lures from about 7am to 9am, we didn't get a touch so I switched over to a jackall, this was my first attemt useing these lures so I was a little hesitant at first to cast it into heavy structure. After a while I was getting a little better with it but still no fish.
We decided to have a troll and no sooner had I set my rod and my lure got smashed, was no world record bass at 33 cm's but it was my first Clarrie Hall Bass.
We decided to head back towards the ramp so set our lures out the back,Still no luck and things were looking poor.
The wind was starting to get up a bit so we decided to cast back to the ramp.
We came upon a little lillie section and before we Knew it I was on.
A bit better at 39cm's and nice and fat. No sooner had I released my fish (and started ripping my fishing buddy) He was on, this was a better fish at 42cm's. He released his fish...Bang!! I was on again, another 39 cm specimen. Same thing, back in the water Bang, Hayden was on again, another 42cm fish. Things then went a little quiet for a while then.
At around midday the surface started to come alive, there were slurps in amongst all the lillie pads so I switched back to a surface lure. First cast and The water erupted in a massive surface hit........Hooks didn't stick.......that was a good fish!!!
It was time to head home, so on the way back to the ramp we cast a little more. Hayden on the popper and I was back on the jackall. I cast beside some lillies and was sure I got hit but was just snagged......I gave line back then felt there was a fish on, he had smashed me back to the lillies in a blink of an eye...anyway...not to be outdone, in amongst the lilles we went and managed to land another healthy 39 cm bass.
That was it, 6 fish, 4 to me on a TN60 Jackall, 2 to Hayden on the River2sea imitation. Hayden's were the 2 biggest fish so Jury still out on the 'Are Jackall's better debate.'
Thanks to Hayden for some great laughs and an all round top bloke.
Special mention to Roydsy who helped me out a little on directions techniques prior to my trip.
I know it was only six fish, and after reading the report from NPD where they got around 3500 fish in 2 hours This seemed insignificant, I was just pleased with my first real attempt at catching bass in an impoundment.

I would be happy with 6 bass in a session mate. It's good effort on your first try..
Just curious you said you did some trolling was that with electric or petrol motor? as i heard you need to take your outboard off for Clarrie hall?

Re: Clarrie Hall Dam 18/8/2007
yeah just with the electric.......was more haveing lures out while we moved around, definitly not serious trolling!!
Makes it hard to manouver without a motor on the back though

Hi Sean
Great to hear you got some bass. With regards to you boat and trolling with out the outboard most electric boats have a made up rudder. I made mine out of some ply that fitted the outboard bolt holes and mounted to the transmom by these. Stops the snaking/fishying down the dam on the electric.

the BP servo at Chinderah (south tweed, off the Highway) is open 24hrs. they sell NSW fishing licence's. FYI If your just fishing the tweed river, there is a special permit for just the tweed if that suits, bit of a saving too. Bp has them too!

So the discounted tweed only permit will not do then I am assuming?
How much is a weekly NSW permit do you know?
P.s. thanks for the reply
