Who's owned or used a Brooker boat

    Hello lads.

I've got the opportunity to get into a Brooker open boat at the right price.

Doing a bit of research and they seem at the cheap end of the market anyway in regards to tinnies.

The one I'm looking at has 3mm sides and bottom and is 5m in length.

Anyone got anything to say about Brookers?

Hey mate we just go a brooker boat a 5.0m side console powered by a 60hp 4 stroke yammie. Probably a similar boat to the one you are interested in getting. So far i cannot fault it. The ride is awesome and everything is well laid out with plenty of storage space and ample fishing room. Im sure you wont regret getting one mate.

Mate what do you mean they are owned by brooker boats? Of course they are, He has asked about Brooker Boats. Anyway my uncle had a 12 ft with a 15hp. Excellent boat. One of the toughest boats around in its day. Now the modern Day brookers i haven't been in one but i saw one today a 4.5 metre open tinnie with a 40 or 50. It was riding really well. I personally like the Brooker open tinnies because from a certain size up they come standard with Anchor Well, Extruded side decks and a Rear Step. Thats my opinion and i would also reccomend you look at Horizon. They are little known but they are a bloody good boat. Mate has a 445 with a 50, It flies and is the driest open boat i have ever been in.

    I'm on my second one
First one was a 14 footer (that old it was in feet), it was a tender on a cray boat for a lotta years (so it was well cared for, crap). It had more dinks and bends but still run true and could only see a couple of minnor repairs
the one I have ATM is 12 foot, straight, no repairs, have to be over 20 years old, aliminum is still clean with not signs of damage. Rides well and dry enough for a small boat
    cheers

My tinny is a brooker of 1975 vintage, forward controls, 13ft long with a (late model) 25Hp on it and it goes like a rocket.
For its age it is in great nic. No repair welds or holes, solid boat and it handles VERY messy conditions suprisingly well for its size.

Re: Who's owned or used a Brooker boat

I've had a 4.2 brooker (2004 model) with a 30hp yamaha. It was very well priced compared to other brands in the market, and I couldn't see any material difference in quality. In fact, because it was cheaper, I could order one with full floor, side decks, rails, anchor well, side pockets, and it came with alloy wheels on the brooker trailer. So I ended up with a much better package than the equally priced quintrex/stacer/allycraft.

Checking out the welds, they were of fairly decent quality and fit and finish was fairly good - again comparable with other boats in the market. At the low end of the market, I don't think you can find better value.

Of course, it was still a small tinny and was bangy and wet like any other mass produced tinny of the same size.

I had a brooker 12 foot tinnie for over ten years, first it had a 15 hp chrysler and about two years ago I put an 18hp tohatsu on it,that made it a bloody rocket.
Had it in the ocean of DI, fished inside moreton on several ocassions(Took it across as rooftopper on a mates camper trailer) and many hours around redcliffe and bribie passage.I recently upgraded but the old brokker was a good honest tinnie, took plenty of knocks and stood the test of time.It outlasted its trailer and motor (I replaced both of them).

Re: Who's owned or used a Brooker boat

I currently own a 03 side console safari and bang for buck, (no pun intended ) they have to be the best value around.
As the others have mentioned before the reduced cost allows you to upgrade to something that you couldnt get with quinnies etc.
Two old sayings apply here, horses for courses, and you get what you pay for.
they are not designed to do offshore work (although some people do),and they are cheaper for a reason, (seams stiched not fully welded, ply on floor instead of allycore etc, but to me those things didnt matter a great deal as I bought mine to do river and some bay work so having a fully welded hull was unnessasary and what I saved in purchase price kept the cook happy.
(Another old saying, Happy wife =happy life )

So overall, Yes the brooker is a great little boat, go for it. (hint to stay dry, keep the motor trimmed well up) (see the overboad thread in boating sect on this site)

Re: Who's owned or used a Brooker boat

Had a Brooker 12 foot used it out west, one day we had a big wind storm the boat finished with a large ding in the side. got the axe and hammer did some panel beating, almost as good as new. Use it a few times at Caloundra then traded up to a stacer. Both great boats.

Re: Who's owned or used a Brooker boat

    Thanks for the replies guys.

It seems they've been around for a while. The one I'm looking at is new so I'm wondering whether there's much difference in the durability between the new and old.

Were the older versions fully welded or did they have stictches seems like the new ones I wonder.

Mine will be a trout boat plus close shore work for abs and crays.

Hopefully it should fit the bill. There actually a couple of SEQld dealers doing some pretty good deals on new packages with 4 strokes at the moment.

You can ge the 5m discovery with a 60HP Yamaha 4 stroke for in the $15k's.

When you compare that to anything from Telwater or other brands there's a few grand difference.
