    Re: moreton green zones

    G'day Lippa,
I just recieved an email containing the GPS points which are displayed in those zoned areas of your map. These areas have been specified as areas of "interest" and will be put to the Moreton Bay Zoning Commitee this coming Monday and will no doubt be Green Zones, but this is open for debate over the coming meetings. I think there is only a few more left. Im not sure why no one has replied to this thread as this basically outlines your new Moreton Bay and is the reason for all the anger and hatred towards the Government lol. What does everyone think if these were all zoned Green, or some Yellow (no trawling, netting etc.). Im no offshore fisherman but those huge slabs offshore from Moreton and Straddy and Bribie look pretty devasting if they were to go through.

It will create a lot of uproar when people realize that Redcliffe's major close to shore fishing grounds are being nominated too.

I would like to see what levels of protection these areas will hold.

Western rocks area off Heath Island is another area that need not be total green protection I don't think.

These proposals bring forward the need for alternative locations to be built for people with average tinnies and small boats. I would think there could be several locations close to Redcliffe and also in Bramble Bay that would be suitable for artificial reefs.

From my understanding Bramble Bay is currently a no trawl zone as is deception bay in a line from the scarborough green marker to the bribie green marker. That encloses a huge amount of area that could house some decent reefs with suitable depths.

    Hi Lippa,

Any word on these maps? I understand they may be being sent to you "on the sly" perhaps by someone who doesnt want to be named?? - but according to EPA - they arent supposed to have any areas yet under consideration and are still considering options - doing research etc.. If these maps are ridgey didge - then what about MBAA surveys and maps - they might be a waste of time?

Without revealing your source - can you verify that the maps are legit? and not just the effort of some joker?

If these mas are real - then the press needs to be advised and get some publicity started - but they do have to be verified or authenticated first - and that may mean having some "deepthroat" "whistleblower" type person come out and say something.

    Cheers,

    Adam

    Adam,
The GPS points I got were sent to all interested parties at the University of Queensland, so they cant be that hush hush. It took me an hour but I overlayed them onto Google Earth and it was the same as the first map posted by Lippa. There were also other areas of interest that were not specififed in the Map such as Cobby Cobby Island, Goat Island, Hays Inlet etc.

Draft versions of these maps were around last September - it was very hush hush at the gov printers but I had a tip from a close source at the time. I think they have changed the areas of interest a bit from then.

Yeah guys there is a presentation at the moreton bay boat club at scrabie.
Several speakers and a powerpoint presentation. The closure zones go all the way to the gold coast.
A friend a copy of the map and is trying to get it scanned.
Areas include Shallow tempest,Deep tempest,The boulders at the cape, flinders (larger exclusion zone),Bribie passage.
Going to be big so if you can get down to the club it may be worth all our whiles.

    Re: moreton green zones

Yeh... I havent been talking to Darren... well not lately anyway - but what Greg P says seems about right - we had heard lots of rumours from different sources about Govt printers who had the maps - but the source(s) couldnt be verified at the time.

I do know about other maps - that the enviros (AMCS etc) have - but these are just wish lists... just trying to be cautious before I get up and start getting all active on this issue again.

I cant make it to Scarbie... any chance of getting a copy of the minutes ( or a report) - once its all done and dusted?

If these maps are legit - as in evidence of a deal done and closures looming - then it represents a flagrant backflip on a written agreement made between the deputy premier and the MBAA. and this being the case - it could be pretty big news!! Hence the caution - you dont go calling the deputy premier a liar - without being sure of the facts.

Thanks for the offer Lipper - I'll drop you a pm.

    Cheers,

    Adam

I'm not in on any of the loops that you guys are in but you can bet your bottom dollar that at the end of the day there is going to be some very pissed off Rec fisho's around at the end of this deal. We can talk about getting a "fair outcome for all" parties involved but at the end of the day I fear that we will get screwed no matter what is said or promised. I fear the greenies will get their way no matter what.

I am very new to fishing the bay and wish I had a lot more background knowelege that I could attend these meetings and scream my lungs out about in protest but there would be little intelegent agruement comming out of my mouth.

I urge anyone in a position that I speak of to attend the meetings and get us heard.

    Cheers Chris

    Re: moreton green zones

just got sent these pics from another source, and a copy of the letter sent to the gov from QGFA, which has been put up here in another post. as mentioned above the maps have been made from GPS marks supplied by the EPA, as "area's of interest"

from reading the letter and the word I got, looks like it's gonna be a bigger hatchet job the the G.B.M.P. All talk of course, but going on the 'consultation' done so far and past experiences both in QLD and NSW, I have little faith that the rec fisho's interests will be considered.

If anyone is interested, I have also recieved a copy of a document title "areas of interest justification srg breifing August 7.pdf which details the reasoning why these areas were selected. is 35 pages, interesting reading. P.M. me if you would like me to email a copy.
