For snapper etc, 8/0 Mustad Demons.
Caught several spotties to 6kg+ as well last season, floating tailor fleshbaits for snapper on 80lb mono traces.
Best I've tried, I like the fact they are non-kirbed.
Can't buy them in bulk unfortunately, $3.50 a pkt of four at the large tackle-marts.
Bit XXXy, but well worth a try. IMHO.
    Cheers.

i cant go past using tru- turn hooks, in sizes 5/0 to 9/0
they are great value, and seem to have an awesome hook up rate.

    Hey Catfish

Outside we use Mustard 7755d's in 7/0 to gang, Mustard Big guns 7/0 for paternosters and snooded floaters. Occassionally throw snooded 5/0 mustard hoodulums in depending on size of baits. These would be what I would use inside Moreton and the 5/0 big gun's.

In Jig heads, 7/0-8/0 gamakatsu hookeded tt's for outside...inside we'd down size to 2/0-4/0 sized hooks for 5" jerk baits

    cheers

Re: types of hooks for bottom bashing

Pat, im a little lost here, do you mean east of moreton? west is in the bay.
Hook size and design is determined by a few factors, with large pilchard, yakka, squid or slimies for bait a gang of 5/0 to 7/0 usually covers it. I use mustard 7766 for gangs, if the fish are small up to 6kg snapper etc 6/0's do the job, but if im getting bigger fish then i go to the 7/0's which are a stronger hook and less likely to straighten or be crushed in the mouth of a good fish. With a snood style rig or paternoster i go for big guns in 9/0 or 10/0, these work well for flesh baits and for deep water i like 15/0 circles but most use much smaller circles then i do. Hook brand, style is a personal choice. It easy to fall into the trap of using to small a hook, 3/0 etc are good for squire and small reefy's and sure youll catch alot of those fustrating pickers, but when a better fish comes along you need a suitably sized hook for best results.
    Heres a pic of a 10/0 big gun, 7/0 7766D, and 15/0 circle ...foxy
