Thread: Is it worth fixing up this f'glass boat?

Re: Is it worth fixing up this f'glass boat?

yeah yeah yeah, I realise it's gona take time, sweat and money- that part I'm okay with. I just wanted to get some idea of what sort of costs would be involved.
Funny thing is I was actually thinking of towing it out and sinking her somewhere with a couple kilos of pillies wired in there... nice little snap reef!
Had a poke around Sundown Marine this arvo after the boy's football game (Lost to Deception Bay 5 tries to 4!!) and saw a few nice tinnies- might have to ask about finance options next time there is somebody free- it was getting busy when I left...

Flattyfinder, cheers for the info, funny thing is I have just separated- more time for boat... need something to distract me

Horse- hats off to you and your brothers on finishing your project! I'm not realy interested in trading up, more just to get a craft on the water I can fish from. Resale on this heap of glass would not be an option- again see the 'reef' option above

Blaze- as you suggest I think this will be a when-funds-become-available reno job!

Well it looks awfuly close in the end costing- I might just have to reign in on luxuries like GPS and fishfinders FOR NOW. Sundown Marine had a little 3+m tinnie with a 15 on the back for $3500, and I've seen a few through the Courier Mail a tad cheaper. Just need to find that bundle of $100 notes on the side of the road....
Thanks all for your replies, I'll jeep you posted.

And there are some really good cheap tinnies on here every now again

    BWAAAAHHH HA HA HA. RALMFAO
    Thats classic Finga!!

And jim-bream, sorry mate, but i think it will be a lot of time and effort for little or no gain. I have a rebuilder in my shed getting some afterthoughts put on, and for what it will cost you (esp with motor) you could get something much better imo. And that is WITHOUT costing your own labour into it. Put it this way, if i had spent the same amount of time at work getting paid that i have on my rebuilder, i could have justabout bought a new one. In saying that, what price do you put on personal satisfaction.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.

didnt i read he said that his trailer has more rust in it then the titanic! and he only wanted to keep the front draw bar!!! thats all! so he will have to either make a new one or... get a second handy!!!

sigh... looks like this aint gonna be a cheap fixer-upper. I realy don't mind the labour, and am itching to get a boat of my own.
(I coulda been itching with a boat of my own, bloody fiberglass!) Well, if anyone sees a cheap little goer, give us a holler- I usually have a quick peek from work during the week. And if anyone ever has a free seat on a trip ;-)
    Cheers again all.
