Tweed Heads - Fishing & Boats

Am moving to Tweed Heads later this year from Cairns (qld), I'm mainly a lure flicker but dont mind bait fishing too ... I have a few questions I'd appreciate any comments on ... excuse my ignorance, dont know much about fishing in SEQ

    1) I realise the areas are different but is there many options for lure flicking in the canals, tweed river etc? Are there any inshore islands/headlands that you guys fish or just mainly creeks and dams etc?

    2) Have just sold my boat (435 Hornet) and want to buy one that suits the style of fishing I'll do in SEQ, so am wondering what boats are popular to do the above stuff down in SEQ? Up north Hornets, Cairns Custom Craft Barra Trackers are popular etc, but I see brands like Bluefin and Makocraft seem to be popular down that way. What boat would you reccomend to do mainly lure flicking, and sneak out the front on a good day?

    Cheers

Mate there's waterways down there that'll suit you to a tee.
Even the Tweed river is a ripper for your style of fishing with islands, sandbanks, little creeks running into it etc etc etc.
I spent my last 12months of my apprenticeship there and my job was to look for decent fishing spots for the week-end (got to love a government job sometimes) so I did lots of exploring and covered nowhere near the full extent of the river system. But that was way back in 1986 so a fair bit would have changed since then but the river system would still be there
Yep, should have kept the boat
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

how much have you got to spend more to the point. The tweed bar has been known to claim many a boat. Would definitly consider something around the 5m mark just to give that extra bit of safety, which you can still fish in the rivers. There is a nice ub520 southwind for sale up my way (bundaberg) which might suit your style of fishing. Can send you a PM with the link if ya want.
