    repowering boat

Am in process of repowering 475 trailcraft..rated 50-80h.p.
Don't want to stir up old debates about which motor is best but am seriously thinking 75 e-tec is my best option. Looked long and hard at df70 suzi..S.O.cam put me off a bit plus new motor next year.

comments invited...p.m. if you have something special to add

    thanks in advance

    Re: repowering boat

matye the 70hp Suzuki is a brilliant motor however the 70 is a de-rated 80hp so its really too heavy. recently drove a 489 Stacer runabout, (a Solid boat) with a new 75hp Homnda & mate it took off like a scalded cat . It went well at low & mid range & flew on the top end. Seen a few 475 trailies with 60hp Ymaaie s , but its a bit too much boat for a 60 Yammie.
Hard to go past see if you can geta run in one, its the new Honda 75hp, , I know its a 4 stroke but the fuel ecomony is brilliant & it goes like a 2 stroke. You will be presently surprised.

The Honda 75hp is a de-rated 90, it's still about 165kg. The Suzuki has more tourque and bigger gears. It will pull a 75hp backwards......

thanks folks...still waiting for the e-tec owners to comment. 75 honda is $2000 dearer than 75 e-tec but resale would be higher

    Re: repowering boat

If you can afford it go the honda.
Not sure about the suzy pulling the honda backwards though ????
Suzy would be a pretty safe bet (has the runs on the board) compared to etec.
Wouldn't mind hearing about the new honda's , anyone got one ???

Having driven a 4.8 Quinne with both the suzuki 70 and honda 75 the honda has a lot better hole shot 2 up and 4 up.

    Thumbs up Re: repowering boat

I replaced my 115 Yammie in April with a 115 E-tec and couldn't be happier. It's quiet, starts instantly and I can troll at 5 knots using only 1 litre per hour! Go E-tec!

    Re: repowering boat

Thought I would get a couple of bites. The Honda is a nice motor. They are very close in performance if proped right. But is there about $3000+ difference.

Fairpractice, All you have to do is a search on Etec low revs in this forum to discover what the dealers don't tell you about the warranty. NOT GOOD
    Go the 4 Strokes.......

    Re: repowering boat

    thanks all
it is hard decision regardless of cost.
for the record..john crawfore marine told me 80% of walk in customers ask to see a boat with a 4 stroke motor.
but i guess we buy to use not to sell
must also add new efi honda looks sooo much better than the old carby one.
will also check e-tec warranty fine print.
