Need Help!!!
Hi All,
We have a 4.6m Tinny with a 40hp 83 model Suzuki motor 2 stroke. No the problem is that when we first got it, it was great. We had for people in it and it jumped out of the water with no problems what so ever and cruised at about 40kph. Then we noticed that the head gasket was cracked and got a mobile marine mechanic out and no it is crap.
After that we went to go fishing and got four people in it and we were sitting on about 22kph we don't understand. There isn't much weight difference between the people we had in it. As we were crusing along we were playing with the motor and they would touch some wire which would make the boat do about 30kph but it still doesn't seem right. It doesn't seem the motor is reving hard enough. It won't get on the plane now. And now we can't get the marine mechanic out. ANY IDEAS WE ARE STUCK

Re: Need Help!!!
Head problem is all fixed! Now we are just stuck with a gutless motor. The spark is strong and blue/purple colour. Fuel is fresh. Changed the spark plugs. I am going to pull the carby off tonight. It seems to use heaps of fuel now.
Keep you posted on the progress.

Re: Need Help!!!
could well be a choke problem, badly adjusted or some thing.

Using heaps of fuel and a bit gutless.
You checked the choke linkage is it partially on ? if it's stuck half way could be your problem.

Re: Need Help!!!
The wire is an orange colour and goes straight to the choke.

Re: Need Help!!!
If playing with a wire makes a difference I would be running the motor in the dark and moving the wiring to see if there is any sparks anywhere or possibly a broken wire but the plastic is ok also check all earths back to the battery.

Re: Need Help!!!
Interesting wire goes to the choke, so you got a sticky choke solenoid or sticky switch on your throttle / control box. Give all the contacts a good spray with WD or whatever. Or remove that wire temporarily to confirm that is your problem.
Then hunt down the problem might be just a sticky ignition switch when you push it in for choke it stays on.
So disconect the battery lead just one, then retouch the lead again. See if you hear a CLICK from the solenoid that goes to the choke. You shouldn't here it unless you push in the key from your ignition.
