Coomera SPs 7/8/2007 and a question

Had a throw at Coomera on the way home yest. arvo at a spot i have only tried a couple of times without much success. After 5 min of throwing around a squidgy fish 50mm in silverfox colour wit a 1/8 tt jighead with a 1h hook,6lb fireline,15lb leader, i got my first touch,i paused and flicked again, this time it had some weight on it and it took off a good rate, had some nice head shakes and saw a great size flattie heading in but dropped it right at my feet, was spewin i didnt have my net,it was back in the car,so i ran up got it,changed squidgies cause the other one was stuffed and started again. 5 min later i hook a nice size stingray, pulled the hook out flicked few about 20 more min and another nice hit, this time i landed a nice flattie just shy of 60cm,the first one i dropped was bigger.
I have been told by a mate who also fishes there that he as caught some good bream but they have had "red spot". this lake is tidal and has 2 entrances for water to flow in and out from so i would be confident in saying its a well flushed lake. I let this flattie go but was wondering if anyone knew what it could be that would bo this to the bream and would it affect the other fish in there aswell.
    Cheers geoff
If i could get paid the same to fish, sorry boss but i ......!

Mate it's a sign of a healthy waterway.
The red spot is the result of a parasite or lice that has attached itself. When the parasite drops off, the result is a red spot. Doesn't hurt the fish at all, we've caught a few Trevally up here at Noosa with it.
    Sign of a healthy system.
    Nice Flattie by the way!

HI geoff, I was fishing just upstream form you on Monday night. I must have put in at the ramp at sunset. I put some livies out for jew, but no luck. I got flattys up there last week tho.

Ive also caught spoted fish in lakes in Tweed area. It was a very similar saltwater lake, with a pipe feed to teh river. I let them go cos I wasnt sure what it was either, but Ive since heard the same thing as jeff.

    cheers

These spot's where known as red spot when I started fishing, the common cause was sugar cane fields run off. They may begin from a parasite but unfortunately it becomes septic the further they go up the river.
Fish with this were thrown back! and where considered toxic.
