Surley and I went out for a fish around Mud on Saturday morning. We launched the boat just before dawn and skipped across to mud. What a trip, Seabreeze advised the winds would be 15 knots, and we were ready for a bit of a bash, but as we left the river mouth behind us the waters became calm, so at 50kph we were at our first spot in no time. First cast, Surley is on, bugger, goonnne. After a few more casts, he has boated a couple of squire around the 38cm, all let go. As for me, nothing, nil, zilch. Made a few more drifts, then bang, a 30cm Sole on a Berkley Swimming Mullet. I make a noise to show my first catch, and low-an-be hold, Surley also has a Sole. Time to move. We hunted around for a few hours, but could not find a decent keeper, so one more drift at a favourite spot before we called it quits. What a drift, first cast, zzzzzzzzzzz of goes my Okuma, and I am into it, after 10 minutes a deep red 60cm snapper, what a beautiful coloured fish. Rerigged, cast again, zzzzzzzzzzz off again. This time a 46cm squire, also a good red colour. Surley boated a few smaller ones but let them all go. Things then went quite, so we bashed home around 2pm. A very quite days fishing.
