Amity (Straddie) advice

Hi folks

I'm after some advice on fishing Amity (Stradbroke Island). Heading over for the wife's Birthday on the weekend & taking the 4.6 mtr boat.

Has anybody got some advice/knowledge they would not mind sharing on what/where we should be targeting? I'm not asking for secret spots, but just a heads up on what/where/how & gear to take......

I have fished the Rous briefly (mackeral) & also been to the 4 beacons once (for diddly squat). Would love to share some new fishing experiences with Mrs Woppa.

i was told of some good size bream being caught of the rock wall and near the jetty...if u go for a landbased flick.not sure wat u want to target tho.but its an idea. im sure some of the blokes will steer u in the right direction!

Thanks TFish. we are staying near a rock wall so we'll no doubt give it a go.

Launching at Amity
Have just done a week over ther unfortunately the weather was windy so I didn't get to launch the boat much. Have a good look at the ramp at Amity if you are launching The first on the left is high and dry the second is good at a 3/4 tide the third will put you the boat trailer and car in the channel. the center one is sharp and the current rips past the one where the barge comes in from moreton is steep and doable if you have a 4wd really check it out before you back the boat in
As for the fish I did better on the beach than in the boat

Fishing off the beach (Amity) landed a few nice whiting (on worms- watch the gulls!!) guy next to me brought in a shovelnose, just under a metre. Just dont swim at dawn/ dusk...

The rock walls all along there will produce squid this time of year,also the weed beds between amity and dunwich will produce squid,winter whiting will be all through the rouse channel,goat and peel are not far to run for a feed of squire,the sticks on moreton will be a great place to fish on a run in tide you just have to be careful as surf can break there.The welsby beacon can produce good fish at times but generally it will just produce rubbish like cobia,there is a section of reef in the rouse channel called the mount cotton reach that isnt a bad spot if you no were to go,also harries isnt far from there,the sand hills arent far either in a tinny on a good day,and if you follow moreton up it isnt far to swim if you tip over.

I fished Straddie thursday gone, only landbased though. Nice Flattie from Cylinder and some bream on dawn. Then headed down main beach and found nice Bream and Dart in every gutter. We used worms, pippies and pillie chunks.

Take some squid jigs and a landing net with you

Top of the tide in front of the rock wall should see you right.
