yeah mate, looks like a smaller spotted eagle ray to me. the larger girls have VERY long tails! nice pick up, bet she went hard. were you land based? you get her on squid?

Hey J/E,
Not sure on the name but i saw one at Twin Waters weir, they are an awesome looking ray.
Marty.
They are the only ray I have ever caught trolling a 6" shallow running hard body lure in over 20 feet of water. Had be beat what this thing was...certainly wasnt a tailor that i was targetting.
Jack.
seen a fair few snorkelling around the place. beautiful graceful swimmers and if u get too close they really power off. i saw one bloke catch a monster in the seaway earlier this year. about 5 foot across. took him about 30 minutes to get in. an interesting catch on a lure though!!
I saw one swim under the Hornibrook bridge a few weeks ago. I looked it up when I got home and the closest I got was a Gold spot eagle ray.
The thing was swimming really slow...just beautiful to watch, almost hypnotic.
Beached an eagle ray that hit a quickly retrieved slug intended for big tailor that would have been 5 foot across. Had the hooks right in the corner of his mouth. Have seen schools?pods?herds? of big rays surfing the waves on the eastern beach at Moreton - very spectacular.

can it get any better??????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgG_TxEPaQE
My initial thought after hookup was that it must be a spaniard. It stopped the retrieve dead and ran instantly at high speed for near on 200 metres. Then when I saw the white of the under side of the wing I thought it must have been a manta that I'd fouled. Was very difficult to get out of the swash - every time a wave went back out, it would give half a dozen flaps and be back out in the gutter like a shovelly and took nearly as long as one to beach. Not sure what it would have weighed, but I'm thinking around 25 - 30kg - on 4kg Schneider.
yeh they go hard my brother caught a massive one 2 years ago...
ill post the link 4 you's to have a look
