    Re: Diesel Engine internal washing?

use quaility oil check the specs in your hand book or ring a dealer caltex delo 400 is good as are many others
if there is sludge service intervals are to long, wrong oil specs or viscosity etc over fueling causes oil to thinken
also a good oil filter and change every service
    dont mean to ramble
so quailty oil recomended by manufacture
( personally if you can find it in a supermarket leave it there )
    regualer sevices
and change oil at operating temp ps thats hot so dont burn yourself
    hope this helps

You will only get sludge if your motor does not run at the proper temperature , eg short trips daily , or a poor quality oil , or too long between changes.
Change your oil every six months , regardless of kilometres , oil I would use is Caltex Delo 400 , It's good quality & priced reasonably. Hope this helps Peterr.
Change your oil as stated in the user manual or more often, not by time. If your doing very low k's, say less than 5000ks in 6 months then thats ok. If you don't change your oil at the specified intervals, sulphar builds up in the oil causing the oil seals to harden and start leaking. Also the oil looses its lubricating properties and could potentially damage componants in the engine or turbo (if fitted) over a period of time. Thats why diesels usually have double the amount of services compared to petrol counterparts. An oil change is a lot cheaper than a diesel rebuild thats for sure.
As for the wash? On a new motor that has been serviced regulary with the correct grade of oil, should not be needed. I'd be warry on an engine with high kms as carbon build up might be whats holding the compression. If you want to clean sludge out of the sump, pull the sump off and clean it by hand and have a bit of a look at the bore if possible while its off. And maybe a new set of rings if needed.
    My 19 cents worth.
