haha wish i could start it. sent it out with a mate whos a mec and he was working on it, when i handed it over to him it was working, he drove it to his work, then he said something went wrong, though it was the starter motor, got his auto lecy to look at it and fixed it, then my mate couldnt get it to work said it was the starter but my old man was able to turn it over manually. might be the glow plugs, where could i get some new ones of them?

    G'day

Glow plugs from any auto shop like repco. Hows your fusible links? If all the electrics are working and it's turning over but not firing, hold a petrol soked rag over the air intake. It will fire instantly.

You can then drive it once the engine temp is high enough and it will start without plugs.

Just go thorugh a process of elimination. Start with electrics, then fuel and then air.

Hows the earthing of the engine? All major connections tight and clean?

Crack the injectors part of a turn and then prime the fuel system, just to check there's no air locks in the lines.

    It'll be something simple.

one of the first things to check is that you are getting fuel to the injector, crack the injector pipe and turn it over, should have a spray coming out of the tube. If no fuel the problem could firstly be your fuel shut off solinoid. If thats ok then it could be worse. You can easily check for power at your glow plugs by undoing the feed wire and testing with a test light. Remove glowplugs connection bar and then test continuity of each indervidual glowplug, if one fails, thats enough to make it hard to start. Also take some time and bleed the fuel system right through to the injector, bleeding the filter, pump and then injector. Not much else will stop a basic diesel

I've got an old Toyota Dyna with a 3lt diesel.

Had all sorts of dramas one day, the bloody thing just wouldn't start. After much shagging around I found the fuel line from the filter to the fuel pump had the slightest crack in it. This allowed it to suck air and she just wouldn't start.

Once i had replaced the hose and after about half a tin of aero start she was as good as new.

As Blaze said, there ain't much to go wrong with a basic diesel.

    Cheers John

A so called professional done some work on my old 92 forerunner.Next day it wouldnt go. Had a look and he had replaced the bar that provides sparks to the glo plugs but hadnt put the insulators on so it had shorted out and blown the fuse.replaced the fuse (50 buks) was as good as new,The fuse is located in the fuse box under the bonnet.about 1 inch square by memory. To remove fuse you have to take screws out of legs of fuse.by taking the whole unit off the inner mudguard.a real pain. Easier to test by multimeter or test light.
