    Chescold RC1180 Your opinons

Am considering buying an RC1180 Chescold fridge. I do a lot of camping out of my boat so a 12 volt unit is out of the question as I can't carry the extra batteries, solar panel etc.

Whats your experience with these fridges?

It will be used around CQ and further north so it needs to be able to handle the heat. My brother and I don't mind a cold beer or six on a hot day so would it handle having hot beer put in it every day?

I have used a 60lt trailblaser fridge in the past and that was fine except I just couldn't keep the power up to it. With all the hot beer going in it just never stops running so a gas unit that will run for 3 weeks on a bottle sounds like the go.

    Cheers

    I have an Rc 1180
It just ok provided the ambient heat below 28c they will work ok keeping things cold and the freeser will take about a day to make a couple of standard ice tray drink blocks
I also have the green unit which is just a freeser this is great for keeping things frozen. Both units have to be kept level when running on gas otherwise they wont work properly. A mate of mine packs styrofoam around his 1180 to help with heat dissipation. as for keeping beers cold I have a little waco in the truck thats the beer fridge. the small size lets you put a dozen or so cans in this runs of my second battery and at a pinch in winter months I can make ice in this unit. sometimes its better to keep the beer away from the food the more times you lift the lid on the fridge the harder it works. When I am not camping the green unit is plugged into the power and it becomes the bait freeser.

    how ya going ian,

we have had one for a year or so, bought second hand. we take it camping if more than 2 days away. my only problem is that it freezez everything down the freezer end........ lol. great on gas and 240v, just maintains temp in the car on 12v and chews the battery. u need to have it on full for a day or so b4 u leave and make sure all ya food etc is cold first

    Hey Chris, Farside

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Chris
Your feedback is a bit more positive than far side. What sort of ambient temperatures are you using it in? I will defitnetly be over 28C.
There seems to be a lot of differing opinoins out there on the chescold. I'm not sure I want to lay out the dollars after a bit of research.

I have one and took it around oz for 6 months. Experienced all weather conditions and it didnt miss a beat. In saying that when we got home it sat for a while without use then we took it up to the Cape. Had trouble for quite a while with it until a fella tod me to turn it upside down then on the side then on the other side etc. This was to mix up the refridgerant inside. After doing this it went alright but has been fickle ever since. If I had my time over i would NOT get one.

    Thanks Lump

My experience with my last fridge was the same. Was great the first trip but became troublesome and power hungry in the years following. I am thinking I will stick with ice and a good esky for now.

    Cheers
