Gave my 13 year old boy the day off school to come and get taught the finer points of S/P fishing.Put in 4 hours before the bottom of the tide and headed up the maroochy river for the 3rd time this week.He`d been up for not taking him the other 2 days so I thought I was in the box seat to teach him a lesson.The other days were alright with 8 Flathead boated for 3 keepers.Anyway we anchor up at the best spot over the other days and I start with a just under Flathead 3rd cast 39cm and I thought here we go a good day for the old man.The gets the next 1 a couple of minutes later 44cm and in the esky,this is where I made my fatal mistake!!!!!!!!!!! Feeling for the boy I let him up on my casting deck and pointed where I`d landed a good one the day before he cast and hooks up 1st twitch of the plastic and it was on taking line off him at a rate of knots in the 2ft of water the flats had on em.A couple of runs and the skipper nets his PB Flathead of 61cm and the goes off 2 to 1 he starts spraying me with.We up anchor and move about 200m up the flats 10 casts later the boy has 3 more in the boat between 35-38cm skipper getting pissed off.I manage 1 at this spot 36cm and decide to move,pull up at next spot and get 1 42cm in the esky. 5 to 3 score looking better nothing else in this spot so we move to our final spot and I land 2 more 38 and 41cm the 41cm in the esky and we`re 5 all and the skipper decides to call it a day with the scores level.In all 10 Flathead in 3 hours 4 keepers.
