Check the local free papers for a ad from a fella called Stan. He does really good work from what I have heard and is mobile as well. The ad is in the boating section.

    Oops
That reminds me of a story...
A long time ago when it did rain (about '96 or was that '90??) I was doing a switchboard changeover in the bush. A pretty big job and the rain did not ease. It had to be done that day no matter what as a business was run there and that's the day that was organised for everyone to have a day off.
Well the drama's started on the way there...stick in radiator so some jointing paste in the hole, radiator cap off and away I go.
Did the job and started home absolutely knackered. Driving along and went around a corner down to a level crossing and thought.."why are my lights shining back"..then splooosh HJ 1 tonner in the drink. Water had come over the courseway hadn't it
Anyways the old girl started again but soon stopped before I could back out so out I gets and for some reason opened the passengers door with the drivers door still open. My wallet floated out (it was on the seat) never to be seen again and all I could think of was those bloody speakers work under water. They're in the kickpanel.
Funny that. I wouldn't have thought they would work.
So I waited for someone to come (no phones back then) and he pulled me out. Got the old girl going and had to drive another 60odd km to get around the water. 5km from home I got a flat. I really didn't feel like fixing it and thought very seriously about just driving home on it...Nearly did but not quite.

As a side note auto tranny oil goes like a strawberry milkshake when it has water in it. Probably not as tasty but looks just like it.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

    grand marlin

as a marine electrician, would you be able to do a job like moving the "control box" (key ignition, trim tilt, kill switch etc) from a tiller to somewhere else on the boat? the box unbolts easily, but the current cable is not very long.

    regards.

    Re: Marine Electrician

    G'day Jonno,

I can, but I have concerns (legal & safety) with moving the kill switch cord from the driving position.

    Cheers

    Grand marlin

please see the PM I sent you.

incidentally, i would only want to move the box off the tiller - not away from the driving position per se. this is because it currently hits the engine well/rear step/seat.

    regards.

    Re: Marine Electrician

finally this particular job is finished!

a big thank you to Grand Marlin (Pete) for getting me started with the very tidy wiring job.

then thanks to the weather I got around to finishing off the job. now I just need to wait for the weather to calm down so I can test the finished product properly.

    Re: Marine Electrician

    Hey fish guts ...

If its any help and you get real stuck, can't get anyone else and its not a complete rewire give me a vell.

I am not a marine electrician but I am an aircraft avionics engineer by trade and so do all my own stuff on our boats accordingly.

I also live on the north side of Brissy at Bracken Ridge.

    Cheers
    Greg
