    cleaning out fuel tank

Hi all, just got the 30hp mariner back from the shop, after not being able to get it started last weekend glad i tested it 1 week before i needed it. The mariner has never missed a beat since i had her. but the chaps at the shop wreken i should get rid of the old fuel .
so Q1 how and were can i dump it about 10l.
Q2 how can i give the tank a good clean out.

I take the motor up the beach when camping so now im going to have to be more carefull i guess when it comes to beach sand any ideas be great cheers

What sort of car have you got? If you have a car with a decent size fuel tank put it in that with 3/4 of good fuel. (i would only do this if the fuel is only stale and not dirty).

i would clean the tank out with a mixture of fuel and metho.

On the beach side IMO i cant see having it on the beach would hurt it (unless you bury it)as they are sealed quite well.

Run the fuel thru your whipper snipper chainsaw or mower regardless of how old it is if it needs filtering run it thru some coffee filters or even thru a old cotton tshirt. These old garden tools will burn almost anything and thrive on it.

As for clenaing out the tank just pour as much as possible out then throw in a litre of metho and swish that around well and try and get everything to wash out then let it air dry for half a day your tank will be as clean as you can get it

I presume your Mariner is 4 stroke?

I wouldn't be putting fuel mixed with 2 stroke oil in your car...

In fact, I wouldn't be putting stale fuel in a car full stop to be honest...

I Have tried a hand full of clean gravell and some petrol thrown in to a dirty fuel tank and swished around, shaken not stirred.
That cleans it up pretty good, then dry it out with some compressed air.

10 litres of old fuel if you don't put it in the car (which I would) throw it on some weeds it's not a bad weed killer either.

Most servos with a garage/service centre have waste oil/fuel disposal for their cars and clients. Ask if they mind disposing of the spent fuel for you.

NB: I asked one servo once and the young guy walked around the back of the station and poured it into the open drain. I almost fainted from shock....... be warned that non-garage service stations may have no clue what to do with this waste. bloody hell, what was this guy thinking.
Not enough time in the day, to many spots to fish!
