    gas powered patrol or cruiser

    hi guys,
    was wondering if anyone had any comments or stats on how both a patrol 4.2 and cruiser 4.2 go running on gas? whats the running costs like? milage out of gas also cost of maintanence, i understand would depend on size of gas tank, say on 100litre tank?

    thanks, am thinking into trading up the ford falcon au as family growing also better for towing boat.

    What sort of gas conversion? petrol motor running on gas or a diesel motor running on a mix of diesel and gas at the same time? The diesel/gas conversion you can back the gas right off when not towing and get the known diesel economy. Set the computer to the towing setting and have the extra power when needed. May be worth researching both before buying a 4WD.

    thanks for info,
    i honestly didnt know you could run diesel and gas? have driven turbo deisel mercedes van 2.2l for past few years it has incredible fuel economy, 70l tank on hwy gets over 900km!! but company car and losing it to promotion!
    would you know both economy stats for both versions? also is it a complicated conversion for the deisel? requiring certain mechanic?

    Are we allowed to put up none sponsers details? Try dieselgasausrtralia dot com or do a search it is similar to that. Mate has done the fitting course and it is does require specialised techs to install the system. Will pm my mates work details as they do the installs and you can talk the guys direct. Very interesting concept but can not tell you $$$ or figures. Please let others know after you talk to the boys about both conversions as they are only a small workshop and are active 4WD themselves and have no ego and have no need to bs you.

    deisel gas conversions poeple are raving about the power increase but havnt heard anything bad only relitivly new so time will tell
    seen a few 100 series have probs runnning on gas dropping valves so a big issue really talk to toyota seee what they say as for patrols seen a few never heard of any probs fuel econ is decreased with gas but it is cheaper so cheapper running cost in that respect no real maintaince change maybe the spec ot oil

    It is fine!
    I have just bought a new v8 cruiser and changed it to gas. Today it is for its first gas service.
    My stats are just from 5 tanks so far.
    Highway without dreamdays (19ft glass) fuel 11litres/100klm, gas 13.8l/100
    City fuel 20l/100 gas, 25l / 100.
    For all Greenies before you start screaming! A cruiser is more GREEN than Priusus checkout the Choice website, and at .549c/litre I don't care.
    Now my city driving is Brisbane peak hour at its best!
    Why I went gas, simple the $$$$ Toyota wanted for diesel, for Me who does very low kilometres each year, meant I needed to drive 125,000 before I recouped the cost.
    Gas, roughly 120 tanks, and I've recouped the cost.
    Systems:
    I went for top shelf, all computer controlled no need to add oil to the gas system every month via a little container looks like a brake fluid container. I also got a galvanised gas tank and stone guard.
    The top of line is $5500, the 'manual' one's are approx $3200. You get a $2000 govt rebate which you claim from medicare, and took a week!

    Cruiser / Patrol its up to you, I had a MQ for 20yrs but when I test drove the new ones, I thought they were tinny, the cruiser is very very quiet and smooth.

    Only upcoming change to the cruiser, the back shocks are too soft for towing the boat, will put stronger ones on.

    There is a thread on diesel gas on here.

    There were some issues, enough to cause me to not do it; plus the pay back periods are long unless you do a lot of travel.

    thanks dreamdayz, helpful stats, sounds like the v8 is pretty good on gas, i can only think the smaller engine would be similar, highway km economy are important as im moving to vic and will be driving from melb to port macquarie for xmas etc, i will be living 800m from work so what fuel i save during the week can be used on those long trips!, where did they mount your gas tank? also is it auto or 5 speed

    Hi guys
    Sorry about the long delay but I have been away on hols!
    Towed Dreamdays to Burrum Heads from Brisbane, all up (including camping gear for Fraser) was 295 kilo on the towball.
    Cruiser has just reached 5000klm just before home yesterday, so i'm not sure if a new motor has any effect on numbers.
    An unexpected variable in this trip being a cat2 storm last Friday! so a good few clicks were done into a rather strong breeze from River heads ramp!
    I am seriously impressed.
    The gas was refilled at three lights out on the guage and that is approx 70litres and consistently reached 430-450klms WITH and without the boat.
    If there is any power loss with gas, buggered if I noticed it! Sat on cruise control at 95klm at 1900 revs most of the time and was very quick in accelerating to get around those motor homes particulary as they have a real annoying habit of getting over 300m before the end of dual lane
    Am really pleased and to top it off, a bit of fuel war today at Mt Gravatt meant a refill at .479 less .04c discount. Topped up the petrol as well, it was only half a tank as the sequential system only uses petrol for the first 10klm or until the motor reaches operating temperature.
    Yep, really good.

    Oh Oldie, I forgot
    The sub tank (45ltr) was removed from the cruiser, and the gas tank went under. Also I have a galvanised gas tank. The spare moved to a swing stand on the back bumper making it a lot more user friendly when needed.
    As a bonus the spare rack makes a handy table and resting point when lifting the kayak up on the roof.
