    Lowrance X102

I was hoping for some feed back, good or bad on the Lowrance X102 colour sounder.

I was thinking of purchasing one so I can use my current transducer and then use my existing Lowrance chartplotter as a designated GPS and use the X102 as a designated sounder.

Is anybody using one of these at the moment.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Cheers Ryan.

If my memory serves me right the X102 is a single frequency unit with 300 watts rms of sonar power. If your current transducer is a dual frequency it may not work at all or it might only work on the 200khz frequency. It would not be ideal for deeper saltwater use. As a general rule of thumb for saltwater, you would want 500 watts rms of sonar power and a dual frequency unit. It is just a rule of thumb but I think you will find most saltwater anglers are using higher power dual frequency units.
    Good luck!

    Thanks PP,

I figured it being a single frequency that it would still be ok, as I prefer not to fish in the deep deep stuff anyway,
I am interested in knowing though if I can use my current transducer for the black and white module for the colour module to prevent running 2 transducers.

Does anybody know if this can be done and also can you run 2 x transducers on the boat with out causing interference?

    Cheers Ryan.

I have a X102 and find it to be brilliant. I don't have much experience but they are easy to use and I get comments all the time about how good it is.
    Good Luck !!

If your current transducer is a single frequency transducer then yes you can use it on the x102. If it is a dual frequency transducer then yes you can use it if the pins match up to the x102. The only drawback if it is a dual frequency transducer is it will only operate at the 200khz frequency and because it is dual frequency your beam angle will be reduced to 12 degrees. A single frequency transducer has a 200 khz beam angle of 20 degrees which does make a pretty big difference. You cannot run 2 ducers at the same time, they will interfere unless you have them far apart. For example I have a combo unit on my dash with a transom mount ducer and then I have a sounder up front with the ducer mounted to my trolling motor. This kind of dual ducer setup works fine. I am a little confused, are you planning on running both the monochrome and the color sounder at the same time, otherwise there would be no need for 2 ducers. If you want to PM me with details of exactly how you want to set everything up I can give you a hand on what would be the best way to go.
    Good Luck!

    Cheers PP,

What I meant was I would have both Transducers on the back of the boat, I would only use the dual unit on B&W as a back up if something happened to the colour unit.
I am assuming this way I would be fine having both ducers as I would only ever be running 1 unit at a time.

    Cheers Ryan.

You should be ok to use the current transducer.. I just sold my last boat that had a X102c sounder in it... I also had a LMS 527cDF combo unit in it and I could run it on the x102c transducer but only on 200k.

They are a good sounder... once you take them out of auto and play around with them.

    Hi Real Magic,
Are you still looking for this sounder?
If so I know where one is available still in the box complete without the mounting bracket $600
