Mate i too only had a 15 hp for years and did struggle to get up on the plain.
It is a matter of whether you do more casting or trolling for the Barra.
Personnally I would go for the electric as you can do so many forms of fishing.
as well as sneaking around some timber areas quietly and easily.
If you dont have any trouble with your outboard then maybe grin & bare it for the moment and go the electric.

The electric would be my first choice too and if you're lucky a bow mount electric with the battery up the front may pull the nose down a bit and help you get up onto the plane easier. cheers scott

yeah i think it might be the way to go as well but what im worried about is if it is struggling now in rough conditions with the weight i have in there at the moment what will it be like once i put the electric on top ?

so what brand of electric would yous all recomend i think if i get one i would get a transom mount cause even though i do a bit of casting i do just as much troliing

Get the leccy mate, youl never look back, though with the motor and battery it will add a bit of weight to your rig.
If you can afford it, a bow mount kota with auto steer and foot control is a god send when youre in the timber.

    cheers

With the electric and deep cycle battery you will be adding the equalivent to half a person to the load on your boat.
The boat dealers should be shot for selling underpowered outfits that will not perform when more than one person is aboard.
If you had an 18 or a 20 hp putboard I would suggest playing with prop sizes for a successful outcome but with a 15 if you go down a couple of sizes I think that your motor would overrev.
Give the guys at solas a ring and see what they say before doing anything rash.
If a new prop works then go for an electric. The problem with an electric is the additional cost having to buy a deep cycle battery and a good charger for it will run into around $400.

hello nipsta, I'd go the electric. and yer the watersnakes are good, I've got a sportsfisher 54lb which are the same as the watersnakes just a different color.
mate try shifting your and or mates weight when getting on to the plane cause a 15hp should do the job .
is time to go fishing yet

yes i think i will consider that . my boat weighs 105 kilo with nothing in it but i have add a timber floor and i have added compartments in the front and back and it only has troulbe when i have 2 of us in the boat im normally on my own .
but if i buy the water snake i can afford the outboards as well i have worked out so i think i will do that maybe and then i can crusie up to the dams and get some barra

Re: new electric or new outboard

HI Nipsta not sure about the watersnake models, personally i wouldnt own one. I run 55lb thrust minn kota on a four metre seajay and it pushes me around fine plus with the wieght of a 40 yammy on the back.IF you do a lot trolling for barra as i do;I'd be up grading to bigger four stroke.
