Also if I lose the card in the process of changing between units its tough luck, a back up copy should be allowed.

Anyway, I amde the mistake of buying my eastern australia navionics card from a local dealer and not from the US.... next one will be imported.

Where there is will, there is a way..... I am shaw someone has worked it out and talking about ways to do it would probably be against forum rules.

    Roydsy,
Why is it a mistake to buy the navionics chart from a local dealer . What's the advantages of buying it from overseas?

    Re: Maps

Ian, Perhaps then we should be referring to this "stuff" as "Digital Cartography" as the last time I tried to put a "chart" into a GPS just couldn't fold it up small enough to shove in that little slot

There needs to come a time when all the manufacturers get into some constructive collective agreement and start using a standard format which would make a lot of things more simple and exchangable.

Can't see this happenning any time soon!

    Re: Maps

Digital cartography i can live with, but my blue CHART card seems to slot into the unit with ease!! I'm sure navionics CHART cards go in to there units with equal ease as well.

There are a large number of different DVD player brand ... Sony, Pioneer etc .. They all use the same format to play movies so why do GPS unit have to be all different ?
Isn't this similar to VHS & Beta ?
If manufacturers started to have a standard then I would be inclined to buy the units that have that standard !!!
    Makes sense to me ???
